Smile Just got my Ultragauge

Just got my ultra gauge and have started setting it up. A few little concerns I have run into. But first I would like to say that the registration process necessary for warrantee and rebate is absolutely a PAIN IN THE ROYAL BUTT. But I was determined to get through it and submit all the correct forms (4).

The protocol is 9141 which it found right away and seems to work. It gave me a warnng of a pending problem and the code was P1000. Somewhere I read that this code is no problem, but need the experts to chime in. I was most interested in coolant temperature. When driving it goes from about 195 to 200 deg F which seems totally normal to me. And it doesn't go up much right after shut off. Maybe to 203 or 204. So that system is working fine.

Would like the opinion about the P1000 code and what to do about it.

Thanks guys.

EZ-

P1000 is not a trouble code...it just means that the ECM hasn't finished running through all of its checks yet (which is dependent on driving cycle, among other things).

Once the ECM has finished all of its checks, the P1000 will change to P1111.

So you're good!

Good to hear you got through the PITA and are using it. I have my temp alarm set at 215 F. I can always raise it if that causes false alarms.

Thanks guys for your response and help. After I posted I looked up the code in the sticky. Now I've got to figure out how to arrange the pages the way I want them.

Thanks again.

And now that you have the Ultragauge White XKR has introduced the package to make the factory temp and oil pressure gauges function like they should. I'll be making those mods in a few months when I have some other expenses out of the way. But for now, at least we have overtemp. protection.

I received misfire & trans codes when I installed my UltraGauge I understand that you have to force the 9141 protocol instead of setting it to auto find the protocol.

This may not be a problem with later models, but I think anyone with a '97 will have to use the force protocol.

What's the physical size of the display?

Any pics of where you mounted it?

Thanks,

George

You can buy it from USA - but remember to factor in Customs, may be duty will definitely be VAT and usually Royal Mail etc will levy a handling charge.

Putting the cost through an online import calculator I got approx £75 for Ultragauge with delivery + £0 duty + £15 VAT = £90 + carriers handling (believe FedX charge £10) so about £100 all in.

If 2 people get together, and buy them in one delivery, you can get the cost down to about £80 each

Default just ordered mine (sale on )

Hey all
I just ordered an ultra gauge for my 99 xk8 convert. I do have a code reader but considering the temperamental nature of these cars its seems like a good investment
A plus is that you can set alarms for coolant temp etc. As well as display it. Anyone planning on getting one they seem to have a sale on now.

They are on sale $69.95 w/o mount $78.95 w/mount plus shipping. I like the idea that it plugs into the OBD II connector and I can get actual temp readings. I just had the thermostat replaced and was told it disintegrated when they removed it yet the temp gauge was at its normal middle reading and the fans never shut off. Now the fans hardly go on.

Of course there is now 'RealGauge' https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...unction-74704/ that solves the same problem. They are fundamentally different solutions though.

UltraGauge Advantages:
-Digital Display
-Host of features supported by OBDII
-Plug and play installation
-Optional settable threshold audible alarm for over temperature

UltraGauge Disadvantages
-An aftermarket box you that need to put somewhere
-A cable that is always there
-No oil pressure option or oil pressure audible alarm

RealGauge Advantages:
-Uses the factory analog gauges and makes them fully functional.
-Looks like OEM, no visible box or wires.
-Can playback history to see trends
-Oil pressure option
-Optional fixed threshold audible alarm for over temperature and low oil pressure (oil pressure alarm works with or without oil gauge option)

RealGauge Disadvantages
-Requires installation
-Functions limited to temperature and oil pressure

No way shameless. Later this year I plan on adding the Realgauge. Having the the temp and oil pressure right where they belong is very important. The Ultragauge temp alarm will always be useful, and I eventually make use of fuel trim and possibly some other functions. But the oil pressure is something I miss from my early years of sports cars.

Thanks! Actually RealGauge has a temperature audibile alarm, but it is fixed at the red zone (above about 230 degrees F), whereas it is settable in UltraGauge. It also alarms on low oil pressure (even if you do not have the oil pressure option!).

I'll add that to the above comparison.

I got the ultragauge in my Arden Xk8. The box looks OK... cable is easy to hide. Backlighting blends decently with the XK8.

Ideally, the best solution would be a combination of the two... The one MAJOR Gripe I have with the ultragauge is that the control buttons for the menus etc are on the back of the little box....

So practically its a set it and forget it proposition. Unless you're into windshield mounts or pulling velcro on / off.... I have mine set with a temp alarm and DTC alarm. And basically just use it as an additional gauge.

I may get the real gauge too at some point... But I have other priorities first...

Here's what the ultragauge looks like in my Xk8.

Take care,

George
