Default Just hit the 101,000 milestone! So, what's next?

101,000 miles on the odometer! Well, the car has not been in the shop for four months now, and seems to be running great, albeit a rattle here and there only a true perfectionist will notice.

Over the last three years, i've had alot of work done on her, some DIY
  • suspension - upper mounts, and all bushings
  • CCV and vent tube replaced
  • headreasts repaired (twice...my fault)
  • brakes and rotors
  • hydraulic hoses and 'rams'
  • lower steering column (new tilt/reach motors!)
  • transmission service
  • re-aligned my driver window
I still get great gas mileage, averaging 22.5 mpg right now says the computer. Steering is tight, I feel 'the lurch' from time to time, sometimes on a stop, but mostly from a return to gas before coming to a complete stop. It doesn't bother me that much.

My left HID flickered (went out for a few seconds) twice yesterday. That bugs me! And, I could not recreate it when I tried, thought it was the left/right sudden turns.

Anyone care to guess what might be my next problem or repair that I will eventually entertain?

201,000.00 miles!

Lets put it this way. Since you have had this car do you really want to drive anything else?

Every time I look at mine I can't think of not having it. Yeah it cost money to keep but what doesn't. Its not worth having if you can't enjoy it good and bad.

Welcome to the 100,000+ mi club. You apparently been christened by the green monster, entertained by replacement of the upper mounts and played with the windows. You are now officially a Jaguar xk8 owner and have the right to say what you want.

Any questions about you meeting the criteria just ask me!

You asked what should you expect in the future? The answer is, there is no answer!

My service guy, who I trust completely as he's helped me get some repairs done for little or no cost, suggested at 100k to 'fog' the throttle body with some magical substance as a preventative measure. But, since my fuel economy is still so good, I didn't want to tempt fate.

And I blamed my problems on Agent Orange. I guess it was the other floral carbon!

Well at 100k you can forget about Nikasil being a potential threat.

I had a couple of Volvo's with the 100k badges on the grill. Perhaps we could commission an appropriate badge for the XK*'s. With hang-down clusters for transmission, ABS, suspension, tensioners, etc.

LOL they have those, its from jagsthatrun.com and it's called a chevy bowtie!

I'm sorry I just couldn't help myself. My jag doesn't run at all so I can talk all the smack I want!

As for your HID, sounds very much like a loose, or frayed wire. Check the connections and follow the wires, see if you find a zip tie rubbing through the sheath or something of that nature. -Shaun

I'll be joining you in the 100K club soon; the odometer on my 97 will turn to 97,000 within the next few days. Still the best car I have ever owned - and I still get compliments every time I drive it.

I have reached 104K on my 03 S-Type. Where did you get your bushings? I need upper control arms but the lowest price I saw so far is $700.00. The booth on the control arms are busted.

If I had to do it over again, I'd just get new parts with the bushings in place, you'll be out the same amount of money after all the labor is tallied.

Especially on a 2003 model.

Default Thanks

I saw a suspension kit being offered for %70 off retail price from Welsh Enterprises and got really excited only to find out its for 1999 -2000 models. Mine is 2003.

The kit includes:
- LHF & RHF OEM Upper wishbones
- 2 Front roll bar insulators
- 2 Front sway bar links
- 2 Lower ball joints

Did you see the parts lists in the XK8 FAQ thread? Many of the parts, including the wishbones (control arms?) are the same up to 2005 MYs. Give it a looksee.

The biggest upgrades, 4.2 eng and 6 spd trans, came in 2003. I think some of the first year shortcomings, like wheel bearings, some suspension rubber, and Nikasil liners were corrected along the way. I have not been able to find a year by year listing of changes.

I should have phrased my question differently, I meant what suspension parts.
