Default key fob programming?

Got two new key fobs from ebay. $18 cheap! I have found instructions on here how to program them. Doesn't seem to work. Here's what I have done. With the drivers door open I pull back on the highbeam stalk, put the key in the ignition turn to position I and release stalk. Then I pull back the stalk 4 or five times. nothing. No chime or chirp (except key in ignition chime) or lights anywhere. Even w/o hearing chirp I push the fob buttons. nothing. At least the original fob which is attached to the key in the ignition still works. It doesn't seem to have been erased. Any thoughts from anyone who has programmed a new fob?

OK. I got it to work! Here's what I found. The instructions I read seemed to indicate I would here a chirp when the car was in programming mode. After watching a youtube video I discovered it is just a chime that sounds like the key left in ignition chime! Anyone needing to program a key fob just watch this video. Simple!

When I programmed my 2nd FOB, the first was erased. Is there a trick to prevent erasure, or do both have to be programmed at the same time?

The detailed instructions posted here at Jaguar forums said you must program all fobs together. I followed the steps shown on the youtube video and pushed a button on the key fob that was in the ignition (the original that I had) and pushed a button on each of the other two fobs I purchased and they all worked! Some instructions said you must push the buttons an aggregate of five times (up to five fobs can be programmed). I di not find that to be the case. I pushed one button on each fob.

Just programmed an eBay Fob in my '97 but with some variance from a combination of different write ups on how to do this.

1.) Did it w/ door shut
2.) No chimes, but the red light on the gearshift bezel came on, but then went out.
3.) Didn't need to pull stalk five times for each Fob function. Just pulled once each for lock, unlock, light, and trunk.

The rest of the write up was correct for my situation, eg., Pull stalk back, then turn ignition key to first (ACC) position, then three to five times pull back on stalk, and I got the red light once and it went out... but I was still able to program as noted above.

And... I never touched the original Fob which still functions as it did before any programming on the replacement Fob.
