Key Fob programming failure

Key Fob programming failure
I am trying to program a key fob for my 2000 XK8. When I bought the car it came with two fobs, one worked and the other didn't. I put a fresh battery in the "bad" fob and go thorough the programming routine. I get the chirp and when I go to push the buttons on the fob I do not get a chrip or light instead I get two much louder beeps. I assume this is a failure warning and that my key fob is bad. Any ideas?

Most likely the Fob is good but not compatible. The fob's have different frequencies and it needs to match the one you have that works. It's possible someone previous bought one and didn't match the new oone to the original. Read thru the thread below for all of the info.

Fobs come in two frequencies - 315 mhz for US markets and 415 mhz for European markets. If it's the wrong frequency, it won't even pair with the vehicle.
The next consideration is fob series. For example, the LJE2610-BB remote from my 2001 XK8 would NOT pair with my 2005 XK8 which used an LJE2610-BC. Check the numbers match on your working and non-working fob.
If everything matches, the next possibility is a sticking button.

I think its correct, or I wouldn't have offered it to the community. Autodata are the 'go-to' company for technical data in the UK. I found it to be accurate on my '97 car.
I'm not sure which in which MY it changed, but there are plenty of early car owners who have found it to be the case. Just check the thread posted by Vern above.

couldn't find an exact matching used fob, so I settled for this one, an LJE2610-AC
It would not pair up using the instructions at :

so I tried a variation, scroll down to post #20, which worked, much to my surprise. :
