Key Fobs inoperative?
I have a 1999 Jaguar XKR convertible and recently batteries failed in my key fobs, i replaced the batteries and carried out the reprogramming procedure but they would not work? i took them to dealer and was informed that both fobs were defective and i need new ones at £230 each??? Is there any way of fixing them? or anywhere i can purchase cheaper fobs? thanks

With the odds being extremely high against both fobs going bad at the same time I would be VERY suspicious of the dealers diagnosis. First thing to check: make sure the batteries are good and then make sure they are in correctly, positive and negative in the right direction. If the are, take the fobs apart, take out the rubber membrane and small circuit board and clean them, gently, with a swab and denatured alcohol. Reassemble and try reprogramming.

A number of auto parts stores, in the US at least, have a free fob tester. It only verifies that a RF signal is being broadcast, not that the thing is programmed correctly for your car.
Used Jaguar key fobs are available continuously on eBay for $20 - 50.
