To each their own but the Lambo doors do serve a utilitarian purpose. Owners of low cars and/or two door cars can benefit in parking situations, whether parked closely to another vehicle or next to a high curb. Just because they're synonymous with one brand doesn't make them ridiculous. Maybe it just means the other makers are either slow adopters or just cheap. ;-)
I grew up in '60s Lincolns. In the '60s. (both of my parents worked for Ford, so...) The reason for suicide doors on Lincolns of that era was to serve several purposes. First was the cool look of a non-center pillar roofline. Second was those Lincolns were the largest unibody vehicle ever made and without a center pillar, connected to a roof structure, those massive rear doors weighed too much for the little stub pillar between the front and rear doors. Those little pillars only served to carry the door latch pins. So they were hung on the much more substantial rear quarter. Third, they were cool, original and also allowed for a four door convertible.
Finally, suicide doors were always more rewarding for a gentleman with good manners. Opening the door for his skirted date was definitely a more pleasant, revealing task.
Earlier two door cars with 'true' suicide doors were kind of a pain in a parking lot or curbside situations as they had to swing almost ninety degrees to allow ingress/egress. Typically your feet are a bit more narrow than your butt...
