Lighted Door Sill Plate

Not for our cars, that I have seen...but if there's enough interest, perhaps WhiteXKR will consider adding that to his line of 'custom modification products' he is developing for his business. It may be relatively easy to do....not sure really. Any links to 'other' car's parts you could reference?

ShopBMWUSA.com: BMW Illuminated Door Sills
IS250 and IS350 Illuminated Scuff Sill Plates
SLK Store :: Door Sill :: AMG Door Sill
However, looking at some of these.. they are a bit pricy!!! I would hope that someone can come up with a reasonable price alternative to these. Probably a bad idea!

Hmmm, the LEDs would be easy to get under the door sill, but getting those treadplates to have some transparency to them, that'd be tricky. then the sill below that, it is solid, so part of it would have to be cut away to allow the light to penetrate through the sill plate. Shaving the letters would be hard, cutting them out would be easy...putting something behind it for 'transparency' like thin white plexiglass may just be perfect.
I'm telling you, whiteXKR would be perfect for the lighting integration aspect, xkracer could fabricate the plate...all we need is a joint venture from the two.

It is something I want to do, so far I have lit up my door handles, they light up when you unlock the doors and then go out with the interior lights.
My idea was to machine out the sill plate and then get the written part lazer cut in stainless with some plexiglass behind it, wiring up some LEDs to the interior lighting will be simple.
I will let you know how I get on

looking at the EXACT fit needed for the flush letters, I'd vote for a laser cut sill, then a plastic pour from behind - would let you control the density/glow levels, and match the cuts perfectly. Would be easy to make channels for leds/wire pre-pour, or encapsulate them in place. Just thinking out loud, as I fabricate tons of one-off design studies.
If I was doing it in dye-sub plastic, I'd cut the metal, and print out the "letters" with the colour dye / density desired upon sheet stock, and glue it in place from behind - but the letters would be bas-relief. Would give you lots more colour choices than the pour option.

led install
hold off on a J.V. just now. took all morning to find someone to install the interior leds for the xkr. he wants to see the car b 4 he can do it for sure. if he.does, i'll pass along price and info back..i really like the door sill ideas, if it can be done sounds like H2O's the best on that. if led's get done tomorrow, i'll pass info QUOTE=H20boy;396480]Hmmm, the LEDs would be easy to get under the door sill, but getting those treadplates to have some transparency to them, that'd be tricky. then the sill below that, it is solid, so part of it would have to be cut away to allow the light to penetrate through the sill plate.
