Default Lights out!

Hi All,

Now that the winter has set in and I'm driving the car in the dark a bit, a very peculiar problem has arisen with the interior illumination lights. After about an hour of driving, I'm getting a slight smell of burning. This is then followed by all six dials (the three main dials plus the auxilliary dials) dimming to abut 10% of their normal illumination. They then go back to normal brightness after about 5 minutes and the whole process repeats itself every 30 mins or so (dimming for 5-10 minutes). I had Jaguar pull out the dash and check for scorched wires, etc., but none could be found. Any ideas?

I would first check the panel lamp dimming switch. Move it to a lower position and see if the blackouts stop.

Tried that and it does stop the fault occurring. What would that suggest is the problem?

I wouldn't rule out the dimming switch. Dimming down and not going completely out still leads me in the direction of the switch. Loose connection somewhere also.
