a little scared of the Jag

Point taken, WJ. Surprisingly enough however, while my LR3 is vastly more complex, both mechanically and electronically, it has been sound and reliable. It has 106,xxx miles, while my Jag has 82,xxx, yet the Rover has has no electrical gremlins while my Jag makes a meal of them. It has the passenger seat controls inop, headlamp auto-on function intermittent, the brakes/CC switch warning, inop center brake lamp, and lately interior door lock issues. BTW, my daughter's XJ8 VdP has had no electrical issues either, AFAIK, with over 100K mikes on the clock, and it's also a good bit more complex than my XK8. The LR3 and both Jags are the same year model, 2006.
None of these problems is keeping me from loving my Jaguar. Few cars come close to engendering the passionate love I have for it and most of the contenders are other Jaguar models.

I agree completely, 150FHC. Definitely had to be '03 or later coupe and I swore I'd never own another black car again, but then my PO dropped the price $5K overnight and that made the decision for me. I would have preferred something other than the black interior too, but it's all water under the bridge now.

If I had a climate controlled garage and butler, black on black on black would be my first choice.

I was in a hurry to buy a XKR, I first found a 01XKR in Portland at a *********** for $7k. I went and looked at it, but had many, many , many problems....It had lights on and surging powerband, The power seats were inop. But I wanted it badly. Then I found this forum and asked advise. Glad I did, I took the suggestion to get a 03 or newer for the motor and trany combo. Now I was in a hurry to buy as I had a pocket full of cash, and I also am decent shade tree mech. I bought a 04 that needed a little bit of work.
To do it all over again, I would have looked for a slightly lower millage car, AND one that was the color combo I liked. I really do not like the anthracite color paint, and the 19" Atlas wheels. I really like the look of the early style XKR Hydra rims. Most of my issues have been straight forward and easy to fix. I have all the parts to do the front end rebuild but have been to busy and just have not gotten around to it yet, but will soon.
In the end , I love My XKR, and am very happy I bought it. (but I still don't like the color)

I was originally looking at a nice 2000 xk8 coupe, but found it to be very lacking in umph. But then I found out about the R model. Since I like power, and a super charger was part of the R model, I then started to look for a XKR. That's when I found the one in Portland. The BRG one listed from TN was one that I was gong to buy and have shipped, but I have done the buy sight unseen before and have been very disappointed in the past. That's the only reason I didn't buy it.

I bought my 2002 XK8 in 2011 with 27,000 miles and I am very satisfied. It now has 78,000 miles and the only big problem was with the hydraulics that operate the convertable top. I think it cost me just under a grand. I live in Florida and would guess that I open and close the top 300 to 400 times a year. The only other problems were the failure of the 8 disc CD changer ($300), shock tower mount failure ($400) and a few small plastic parts that have cracked including the drivers seat hinge cover and the transmission selector cover. The engine is strong and the ride is smooth. I plan on keeping this car a few more years. By the way, find a Jaguar garage, my guy Andy at the Jaguar Doctor https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/i...lap.gifcharged me half what the dealer quoted for the top repair.

Well here's the fix to his CD changer...Don't put 8 discs in a 6 disc changer! Kidding around, just joking on the typo!
