Default locating thermostat in 1999 XK8

Just recently I noticed that about 5-10 minutes after driving my Jag, the fan will kick in and run continuously until I shut off the engine, regardless of driving conditions. Even after I shut off the engine, the fan will restart within seconds and run for up to several minutes. I suspect I need a new thermostat b/c the coolant levels look fine and the temp gauge of course looks normal.
Problem is finding the thermostat. Can anyone give me a clue as to its location? Also, I've tried to locate a physical repair manual for this car to no avail. The online manuals do nothing for me, really. I like the old-style photos.

The thermostat is located at the top front center of the engine in a plastic 'tower' topped by a screw-off cap. The plastic housing is very prone to cracking and slow leaks. There is an aftermarket aluminum version available from several sources, some that come with the thermostat. The thermostat is not unique and can be found at you local auto parts store for around $20.

Check the stickies at the top of the XK8/R and XJ8/R forum for detailed information on how to change it. Here is the link you will find there: JagRepair.com - Jaguar Repair Information Resource

There is no 'physical' repair manual, only electronic versions. The referenced forums have a free download and instructions also in the Sticky section.

. . . and welcome to the forum!

You really need to take care of over heating problems immediately as the aluminum engine can be severely damaged.

test points's done everything bar coming over to your place and swapping the thermostat for you.

If you want the physical repair manual section for the thermostat procedure, here it is in PDF format:

JTIS - Thermostat - NA 26 45 07.pdf

The PDF is set to allow full or part printing.

Also, be sure to install the new one with the pinhole in the 12 o'clock position. Some recommend removing the pin (I did when I installed mine). So far so good down here in Fl.
