Have the dealer cut a non-chip key?

Thanks

If you have access to the cabin. Open the bonnet and on the drivers side you will find a terminal that you can hook jumper cables or a battery to. It is a positive only and you can ground anywhere, then try to release the boot with the interior button. Be careful and watch for cables getting hot which would indicate battery cables in the boot are grounded.

Open hood.
Stand on drivers side (USA)
See shock absorber (black plastic cap in center, 3 shock bolts each covered in black plastic) by your belt buckle. We will use this to find the 12volt terminal.

Dead reckoning:
Touch shock bolt closest to engine. Now move hand back toward you and left to next shock bolt.
Move hand left about 2 inches towards front of car.
In a few inches see black rectangular fuse box (black plastic rectangle cover)
Move hand over this box, move toward edge closest to engine.
Right rear Corner of that edge = see black flexible rubber cap. It covers the 12volt battery terminal.
Remove cap, silver bolt is battery.

Ok to connect 12v here. Will give you power to press trunk release button. Charger is OK. BUT: NEVER TRY TO START THE CAR FROM THIS TERMINAL. You'll blow the 50amp fuse. Remember Vern's note about hot cables (above).

John

UPDATE:

Tried this method and it did not work...? Guess I'll have to contact a dealer and get a spare key made. I'm currently working on the car so no rush...it's not my daily driver.

I'm still open to any other ideas however...thanks all.

Did you use Battery Charger or Jumper Cables? I had the same issue. I tried Battery Charger and it didn't work. I tried jumping from my Truck and it worked. Doesn't seem like it would make a difference but it did.

Besides making a good connection at the Positive terminal, you need a good ground, not the shock tower.
Good luck.

Congrats on opening the trunk. Now get another key made. Lots of info in this Forum on sources to get a blank Tibbe cut relatively inexpensively.

I too only had one master key, so trimmed the tip of my green valet key to become a spare driver key ... and I’ve used it a few times to open the trunk when I stupidly closed the car door with battery disconnected and key inside.

Looks like you were trying to type always enabled. Heres the problem, you've got an S type not an XK8. I am not sure of the difference with that model.

Maybe you'll get faster answers in the S type forum?

If you go there say these things:
Alarm type ( factory or aftermarket)
Whether you can turn alarm off with key in door (we can on xk8)
How it is that the alarm has power if the trunk open button doesn't
Oops, I just realized my key in door question is a dumb one - keys are in trunk! Laughs on me there...
How did alarm turn on if keys are in trunk?(might as well address it)

Hope this helps
John
