Looking for advice on purchasing an xk x100
So some of you may recognize me or not.. probably not but I owned a 2010 base xk for a while and ended up selling it to help pay for my father's cancer treatment. I don't regret selling it was what needed to be done at the time and my father beat the cancer.
So with all that backstory out of the way I always actually preferred the look of the x100 xks but I got such an amazing deal on the 2010 I couldn't pass it up. Thus why I bought it.
So I have a few questions when it comes to the x100s
1 from what I hear 2003+ was when they were really sorted out in terms of problems so is it better to get a higher mileage one of those or if I can find the earlier years with less miles buy that? I am talking a potential difference of 40k or so miles
2 I am a bit worried that an xk8 will feel slow compared to the 2010 xk I had which is more comparable to the xkr seems to be a lot more xk8s than rs should I be overly worried?
3 are the xk8s more reliable than the xkrs?
More as I think of them

Yes as I said what I had was a 2010 xk which would be an x150 but I much prefer the style of the old ones

The two major problems with the older ones are timing chain tensioners and a failing clutch drum in the ZF 5 speed gearbox. The third issue that you may have read about is the Nikasil in the cylinder bores, but that is a 20 year old problem caused by high sulfur content in gasoline.
So you can buy a newer one with the 4.2 litre engine, who has better timing chain and tensioners, steel cylinder liners and 6 speed ZF auto.
OR you can buy an older XKR where the timing chain tensioners has been updated, and who has the MB 5 speed automatic gearbox.

Aside from these known gremlins, find a car (like mine) that comes with an extensive repair and maintenance history. Those receipts can be the difference between smooth sailing and rough waters later on.
