Looking for a one-piece, forged lug nut replacement

That is correct. The lugs on our XK8 are 1/2" RH only, no other specification. You would have to get other lugnuts to work on those spacers, so maybe youl have to spend $10 per corner if you go that route.
#22
And that leads me to ask how these spacers would attach to the car. The picture shows nuts already attached to the lugs. I assume those would be the ones that are used to attach it to the car. But if the lugs on the spacer are 12X1.5, then those nuts won't work. So I'd have to get new hollow nuts for that. And I still don't know if it would work.

I've been doing a little research on the lug nuts. Apparently the 1997-2002 lug nuts are different than the 2003 to 2006 lug nuts. I can't figure out what the difference is, but the different parts places on line show two separate nuts, one for the early models, and one for the 2003-2006 models.

I ran into some of the same conflicting information via the web sites, but check out the lug nut manufacturers (white knight, gorilla, billet, and others) their application guide shows all except the s-type to be 1/2" RH, which is consistent with what I have heard on the forums.
Can't help you on the spacer info, I don't think the XK8 needs more width.

I don't like the way the fenders hang out so far past the wheels. I had a ruler out in the garage last night and I think ideally the track should be about 1 inch wider on each side. My tires will still be inside the wheel wells, but closer to the edge. It's just a personal preference.

I mainly dislike the look of the rear, but if I buy a set of 4 I might do all of them just to see what it looks like.

Matt, that's sounds fine. Sorry I didn't respond sooner, I was on vacation/business vacation with my wife last week. Even though I wish I would have checked because the last leg was in Little-Rock. Should have added Texas to the trip. Did you want me to PM you with my address? Just let me know.

A little info on the lug nuts...the OE nuts are done with zinc coated malleable steel with a stainless steel cap so that they look shiny and are corrossion resistant where they show. The nuts have the long nose that fits tightly inside the wheel to center it and hold it in alignment. This is an old ag standby design, my 96 used them too. The reason for the stainless covers is that stainless is not a good material for lug nuts, it is prone to galling and cross threading in this application, but it does make a nice cover that will not corrode easily. I would never use an all stainless lug nut on this car. I typically do not like aftermarket lug nuts since they can be dangerous.

No problem Dan, it would have cost you more in gas to make the detour thru Ft Worth than it will to ship these babies over to you. They're still not here yet, but if you'll PM me your addy, I'll have it handy when they do.
Oldmots, I totally understand your philosophy on the aftermarket lugs, but in this case, the shaft of the nut is not lacking any material, so it should be just as safe as the originals, and keep the wheel perfectly centered. I'm an engineer by trade, and I wouldn't attempt something that would compromise my safety.

I don't agree Oldmots, Gauling is caused by using the same materials more than material type. If the studs and the nuts are the same then yes gauling is a possibility. Besides 304 SS is way tougher than maleable, 1018 Steel (eg.).
I expect it is more of an expense issue as 304SS takes 3x longer to machine than steel. Much easier to stamp a cover and use a easy machining steel to make the nut. Crossthreading however is caused by laziness , jmo.
I send my address Matt.
I'll double check one of my lugs for the specs when I get them. If there's any probs, I'll let you know.

I think I will try and make a set, in 4340 steel, and have them heat treated and then chromed. I expect it will take a month or so, before they are ready to install. They would be a direct replacement for the early XK8 lugnuts with the stainless wrapper on them. Has anyone found any other type of replacement available? I don't want to start this if someone has found a good lugnut to use.

The jury is still out on these White Knight units 8troll. Depending on if these need shaved to fit, most people won't want to go thru the trouble, even if Dpez does it on the cheap. Finding another source, even custom from you if you're willing to mass produce 'em, would be a great idea.
Lets see what it costs you to do it first. Let us know!

Wow Troll, that's sounds expensive. Heat treat charge $40.00, Good Chrome $120.00 not the cheap stuff @ $50.00. Not to mention material cost and labor, good luck.
I'd rather have my nuts shaved at that price, even though they do have nueticles now.
They're for dogs but maybe they'd work as replacements.

mistachin, the lug thread pattern for the 04 XJs and up are MUCH more available in the aftermarket sector. The lugs that are hard to find are for these 97-2006 XK8/Rs. Good to hear that white knight has good quality...i'm off to pick my new lug nuts up in 15 minutes. When I get home, I'll try to mount them on a wheel....to be continued

There was a long trip for this small box from CA to TX, arrived yesterday, picked them up today. Came home, tried to fit one, and as expected, just a hair too wide in diameter.
Original: 17.90 mm
WKnight: 18.6 mm
Less than 1mm difference, and it won't fit in the rim. Dpez, they're on there way tomorrow for a little liposuction around the middle!

Update: these new lug nuts are FANTASTIC. They fit just splendidly (<- british term it sounds like)
After Dpez worked a little machine shop magic, taking them just a hair under the factor shaft diameter of 17.9mm (0.704 inch), actually machined down to 17.5mm (0.69 inch)...these are just what I was looking for.
After 6 months, I found a replacement lug nut. Just needs shaved a bit. I spent $65 on the lug nuts ($60 + $5 shipping to Discount Tire) then another $15 or so on shipping to the machine shop and back. That equates to $4 a piece.
Gordo, shoot me a PM with your mailing address and I'll mail you five (5) of the best OEM lug nuts that I took off.
Of course, all other lug nuts that I have left are available to anyone who wants them. All fit, some have a bit of a 'torque' appaerance on the aluminum cap, but I won't give you one that has been structuraly compromised. You just pay for shipping. I replaced these not because a cap came off, I just didn't like the rattle they made from the cap itself.
Here's a pic of the wheel with 2 new lug nuts included among the aged originals.
And here's the wheel with all new lug nuts (sorry, its a little dirty from all the rain we've had)
