Default low coolant lite on

I am getting a low coolant lite. I checked the coolant level and it is OK. I had this problem on and off for a while. Can the sensor for this be deactivated? Is there a fix for this or do I have to have my coolant reservoir replaced? I tried pushing the floater inside the reservoir up and down but this is not fixing it this time.

The level sensor is located on the bottom of the tank. It can be removed and replaced without loosing any fluid. It is mounted in a tube that is part of the tank. Attached is the picture from the shop manual. You don't have to remove the tank to remove the sensor. Just rotate it as shown. Also attached is a parts diagram for the sensor from SNG Barratt's catalog. You can use the listed part number for price comparison.

Thanks for the info. I ordered one from Barratts. It looks like the switch is pried out and the new one pressed in. Any idea how hard you have to apply pressure to install the new sensor? Can you press it in by hand?

Yes - it is held in by friction - nothing more. Sometimes the problem is that the sensor has started to slide out therefore giving a false trigger point so you can see how relatively loose it is.

Just posted a new thread on this problem. The sensor was not the problem looks like a wiring problem or a connector at the computer module.

please correct me if i am wrong.

there was an issue with some sensors in direct contact with coolant creating a capillary effect in their harnesses that eventually damaged ECM boards on the other end.

The coolant level sensor on the 03 XKR does not come in contact with any coolant. It sets in an insolated tube in the expansion tank.

I am trying to locate this plug EM1-19 on my 03 XKR. I have a low coolant lite on and have trouble shot it to this plug, but I can not find it. I believe it is located under the dash?? Once I locate this plug I will be able to fix my problem, as I think this plug needs reseating. Everything else that would cause this problem checks out OK.

Default 2003 XKR expansion tank part number

What is the correct part number for this item. Is the tank the same as used on the 2003 XK8? The number I have is MJD4400AB. After more investigation I found that that number is for XK8's and will not work with my XKR. The correct number is MJD4400BA. The numbers are very close so be careful when ordering.
