lowest power drainage during winter layup
So it's that time of year again.
All the usual stuff done and CTEK connected.
BUT - question. What's going to give the lowest power drain activating the security system or not?
For the last 2 winters I have not activated it and left car unlocked but in a locked compound. Reason is when I left it security activated 2 years on the run a fuse blew (from memory a 5 amp to the centre console switch pack) the last 2 winters no blown fuse. Likely total coincidence but got me thinking - which gives the lowest power drain?

After 28 days, the car will go into ultra low power standby mode. It really does not matter if it is locked or not. When in this mode, the remote will not work again until the key is used and power is little more than the self-discharge of the battery when disconnected.
With the maintainer connected, you should have no problems, since in any event the maintainer provides more current than the car ever uses once it goes into sleep mode a few moments after shutdown.

Solor Charger
I am fortunate to have a window in my garage which faces west where my XK8 is parked. I use a solar charger that only puts out a few volts / amps. Varies during the day and week according to weather. Works great. Rich

I would love having a window, that I can leave uncovered in my garage, but instead I have an INVADERS motorcycle "club" flag covering my one and only window, along with two pieces of L channel screwed into the garage studs, so as to keep the local auto inspectors out.....be cool.....Mike.....LOL

I have the old habit of pulling my battery for winter storage. It comes from me having a few old lead acid batteries in my motorcycles leaking electrolyte all over the frame.
I just believe a battery outside the car can't leak all in the inside is all. Go look at a lot of old battery trays (ask the 928 guy mrplow if they get corroded lol) and I just would rather pull it.
