Default "Mina Front Grille" 98 XK8

Anyone ever buy/install a Mina front grille for 1998 XK8? I'm looking at the powder coated black mesh. If there is a supplier that supports the forum I'd like to know. Thanks. K

Put one of their stainless mesh grilles on my 2006. There are some really good threads here on how to do it. I may be wrong, but I think Mina is the only one who sells their brand of products.

Here's mine:

I bought it, and was disappointed because on their website it does not show the screws that hold it in place.

But it was still a worthwhile add-on. I prefer it to the stock look.

MAKE Sure you use very hard screws, No zinc or galvanized screws. I torqued a few of them too hard and now they are permanently sheered off in the aluminum bumper mounts.

I had the same problem, but was able to grab the sheared screw with visegrips and back it out. Those bumper mounts are made from some pretty stout aluminum. I think the screws they send are too small. They would probably be less visible, but they pull through the mesh too easily. I used larger Stainless Steel screws. I've been experimenting with painting the screw heads black, but they still protrude a bit so at certain angles you see them anyway.

Did you get Black or Silver? We'd love to see a picture, especially if it is black. Never seen one.

I make all my own grilles, I never liked the OE idea of screws through the front and instead use P clips around the ountside edge, these fit under the rubber surround and can not be seen.
Of course this does mean you have to drill your bumper/nose cone to fit them, the effect though is much better.

I bought OEM XKR grill on ebay and plan on installing tomorrow. Hope to post pics soon afterwards. I struggled w/the the decision on what looked "best". I went with what looked more original.

Good for you - some of us think that the more original the car is, the more we celebrate the original design - and the more it should be worth in the future. DaleD

I've been thinking about doing this on my platinum (silver) XK8. What do you think would look better, black or stainless? I'm kinda leaning towards black.

Both would look good, but like you, I would probably go for black on your silver car.

BTW, I just discovered all your how-to videos - fantastic!!!

Sam, imho I think that the silver would look hot on your car. It would bring out all of the chrome you now have. Silver & platinum are beautiful together.

Thanks! I just added a link to my youtube channel to my signature. In the next few days there will be a video on how to change your transmission fluid including a pan/filter change, a video on ball joint replacement, a video on lower bushing replacement, and a video on replacing tie rod ends. I have lots of projects going on right now.

Looking forward to that one. I have the much documented 'bark' from my transmission and have read that it can often be cured by an oil change.
