Hi
I'm looking after a Mongoose cable for my 2001 XKR. And I may use a V125 or V130/131 SDD.
Problem : i want to buy a cable but everytime, description tells it is for Jaguar 2005 onwards.
Is there any cable difference between pre and after-2005 cables?
The Mongoose can ONLY use software for the SDD 125 onward!
The SDD software should revert to LEGACY IDS for early cars.
It is not the correct software/hardware for the earlier cars but it can work.
IDS 118.5 was the LAST version (2009) so SDD 119 was the beginning software but requires a Rotunda/Teradyne VCM. The Rotunda/Teradyne VCM is required for all IDS/SDD up to SDD 124.
The problem I encountered was that the software that is provided with the cable won't launch IDS properly (although it tries, but hangs) and it won't work - i.e. SDD works OK, but IDS launched via SDD has issues. It also does not work when trying with a virtual machine with XP. But using SDD 130 on a genuine XP install works fine with the cable, or at least as good as you would expect with a knock off adapter (i.e. reading data is fine, but I would not consider trying to program any firmware).
I have been working on this and the chart below shows the differences between the Mongoose cables.
I am still researching SDD failures and what's wrong with the clone cables.
One failure is the cable is powered from a 12V source on the OBDII connector (Pin 16). If this fuse is burned out then even if the cable good you will have a failure.
That's an easy check to make sure you have 12VDC at pin 16 before plugging in the cable.
But does anyone know how to physically check the cables to see what wires are connected?
In other word how to identify if it's a JLR cable or another car manufacturer?
