My 4.0-4.2 Swap-Question
I blew the engine in my one xkr a few years back and am getting ready to finally swap the new motor in. Motor was out of a low mile xkr with a 4.2 so I had much of what I needed as opposed to using an xjr sourced motor.
I dawned on my that perhaps I may need need a new flexplate and Im unsure if I can use my 4.0 balancer . I had swapped the timing chain cover timing to the 4.0 as I plan on using everything on that end. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Damon

It's all described in this link:

Below just a short part of it, that gives the answers:
To answer your questions; above you can see you can use the 4.0 balancer when using the 4.0 front cover. As your 4.0 engine is a AJ27, there is no need to change the flywheel.

Below just a short part of it, that gives the answers:
Base AJ26/AJ27 car:
C Cars (SC= Supercharged)
-Any 4.2 SC engine can be used, Stype, XKR, XJR, XF and Range Rover, though the latter needs some extra work, see note below.
-Use only the base block, so the Lower end/Base Block, heads, timing gear, camshafts, oil pump and maybe the supercharger.
Then re-use from your 4.0 block:
-Front cover
-Front lower pulley
-All electronics (Ignition coils/Fuel injectors etc)
-Fuel rail/intake manifold
-For the AJ26 the camshaft positioning indicator (that one sits on the Bank A, Intake camshaft), and flywheel
-Lower sump
-Cam covers
-Camshafts (but only if the 4.2 block had VVT).
