The answer is a definitive YES.
The AJ26 was fitted with an EGR in 97, but a blanking plates were installed at some point in the VIN range. Unless the engine is a SUPERCHARGED engine, parts can be swapped over from it (I am assuming that if the EGR engine is NOT supercharged, it is a N/A AJ26)

If so, and your car originally had an AJ27, you can swap over the FLEX PLATE (important) and some other parts covered in other threads (some of the timing gear and timing cover along with the intake manifold/throttle body) and be good to go. If your original engine is an AJ26, it will be a straight swap, I would swap the manifold/throttle body and blank off the manifold.

Also, pictures tell a thousand words- if we can see the replacement engine, we will know immediately if its a supercharged engine, an AJ26 or an AJ27.

Are you in SOCal or NORcal?

Thanks, DSnyder586.

I'm in the SF Bay Area (Norcal).

I haven't seen the potential replacement engine as it's either at the dealer or it has to be ordered by them.

I was hoping to hear something like "Sure. Just put in the replacement and block off the EGR port(s)." Or, "Just put in the replacement, leave the EGR in place, and maybe reprogram the computer."

But, unfortunately, it appears that it won't be quite so simple. So, my current thinking is that I'll have my own engine rebuilt. I also have the option of having the "correct" engine sent from the UK, but they're on back order, and I suspect that shipping would cost somewhat more than a Big Mac.

I'll keep reading everyone's suggestions and maybe change my mind about rebuilding.

Looks like there is a place in Rancho Cordova with a TON of XJ8 and XK8s- you should be able to find a good used motor from them? A good, used motor is usually the most economical way to go- a rebuild is at least $1k in parts alone.

Thanks, dsnyder586.

I know you're right about price etc. And while I spent many years sliding around in the oil under my 68TR250, I'm no longer into that scene. I picked it up at the factory and used it as my daily ride till about 1990. Those were fun times. But I'm afraid rummaging through lots looking for parts is going to have to be satisfied with just rattling around in my memory. Now I prefer to just drive my favorite car.
