My car still loves me
I really have not driven the xk to any degree until this week. I mean once every three weeks kind of degree, about 5 miles or less, over the past year.
So hear I am on day two of solid driving stop and go and interstate, and errand running, I get a restricted performance warning. It came on for about 15 seconds and then went off. Then it came back on for 5 to 10 seconds and then went off.
I will stop at auto zone on the way home to see if they can pull any codes.
She still loves me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd sit back and relax just a bit.
I don't believe a knock sensor code ALONE will cause a Restricted Performance message. I get those codes every few days, but they never throw the RP message.
I agree with the other guys...drive your car. It will likely respond well to the attention. Then if you need to replace a knock sensor, it's do-able. Not terribly easy, but do-able.

I've been getting the intermittent restricted performance as well. Just ignored it until I took the car in for a prestorage lube and coolant change (no do it yourself here at the condo) and the tech mentioned that he got it on his post service test drive. Bank one was out of spec on knock sensor resistance, bank two was off and on borderline. I replaced driver's side, but pass side bumped up against a rib on the intake manifold, so I couldn't get it off the stud. Anyway, in the process, I disconnected the pass side and cleaned the terminal connection at the the thermostat housing. (remember when we replaced that?) The result is no messages in the past week (I did fill with Sunoco 93) and have now stored for the summer. Try your connectors first. Replace driver's side next. (Fiddly, but doable.) Pass. side if that doesn't work The sensors I got off ebay (airtex) work fine. about $30 ea.

I went ahead and ordered the Airtex 5S5619 for 20.99 each. Thought I could not beat the price especially since other forum members have had good luck with these less expensive units.
But all day yesterday the RP kept flashing and was very annoying. So for under thirty bucks hopefully I can have a normal dash again.
I have run thru about 50.00 bucks in fuel in three days. So I have been thru a few cycles of getting the old gas out of the car. I now have about 7 gallons of fresh Shell V power premium. I'll keep and eye on the dash thru this tank to see if it was old gas.
I have only been putting in 20 bucks at a time since it is not driven as often to try to keep the fuel fresher. That is the only reason I mention this. Back in the day bad fuel use to make all kinds of knocking in engines. Way before there was such a thing as a sensor.
The only sensor back then was made by Pioneer, Supertuner and a pair of robust Jensen 6x9's in the rear deck above the rear "bench seat".
Crank it up and the knocks went away.
