You guys are lucky. I have the elm veneer which is almost impossible to find. I have sent emails to about 10 Jaguar breakers/parts specialists in the UK this afternoon and am crossing my fingers that at least one of them will come up trumps.

Frog, you can buy a complete elm dash here: Jaguar XK8 / XKR Elm Veneer Standard Wood Kit (RHD) [Jaguar XK8 / XKR] - £695.00 : Myrtle Productions, fine wood car interiors and luxury steering wheels

the dash is bookmatched so it might not look right if you were to replace the center only.

I have a matched set of Elm 6 guage in great shape... if someone wants to trade me a mixed set or a walnut set, I'd do it. However, I think the Elm looks like plywood, so whatever I get will be sent off to be re-veneered anyway.

I keep coming back to this picture and staring...

The Nav unit is really the one thing I dislike about my XKR and the 3 gauge, especially the analog clock is one thing I really love about my XK8. Thank you for making my desires a reality. I had already ordered the Mina 6 ring set...

My pleasure. I am glad I can pay back to the forum.

After over 30 years in the corporate world, and dealing daily with the mind numbing complexity of today's systems, doing these small projects for the forum reminds me of the simple love of technology that brought me into engineering in the first place.

Hi

so is there any way of getting the original gauges to provide a more accurate reading?
I never really liked the look of the nav screen, but am disappointed that they only ever show one reading ( except the time clock lol)

Absolutely!...I have a working prototype on my car now. I expect to be in production with this upgrade sometime in May.

Thumbs up

That's great news, Steve! Congrats, and right on schedule! Sounds like the prototype has performed well.

Yes, it is working well. It is basically a tiny purpose built microcomputer (running almost 1000 lines of C program code) that mounts on the instrument cluster and commandeers the temperature and oil pressure stepper motor gauges. It reads digital coolant temperature data direct from the instrument cluster and if you have the oil pressure guage, an optional oil pressure sensor is added near the oil filter.

It also adds an audible alarm during over temperature or low oil pressure fault conditions (which can be muted with the button at the end of the turn signal stalk).

There is also a really cool feature that lets you play back the max. temperature and minimum pressure from the last 60 engine runs stored in non-volatile memory to help spot slowly developing problems.

As for all my products, extra attention will be given to ease of installation and pricing will be reasonable.

Here is a photo of the prototype. The final version will look a bit different, but fairly similar.

It can be disabled permanently if you want, but this may be the only audible warning you really want to have.

Agreed, especially the oil pressure!
That prototype circut board is amazing. Did you stratch build that?

It is a completely original design, optimized just for this application, but I had the printed circuit fabricated at a shop from my artwork.
