Mystery Engine Number

Mystery Engine Number
My owners manual says the engine number is located on a raised area around the thermostat housing.
I have crawled all over that engine several times and cannot locate any numbers. Took off the covers on both banks and cannot see any numbers.
Unless its under the intake manifold its not there.
Only number I see is on the back bank on the drivers side and its "NNE4400" which does not seem like an engine ID of any kind.
I have not jacked up the car to see if there is an ID on the bottom of the block as some have indicated on the forum.
Any suggestions??
My car is an 01 and was mfg in March of 01 according to the records. I am of course worried that my engine is one with the Nikasil Bores.

The easiest answer is 'on the build sheet provided by a dealer using the VIN'.

How's your engine running? Most Nikasil engines that have made it this far usually have no problems. The reason for the Nikasil problem was high sulfur content in some of the fuels in the later 90's and early 2000's Gus's web site has a very good article on Nikasil, and so does the sticky's.
The newer gas has lower amounts of sulfur, and not all of the fuels back during the 90's and 2000's had high sulfur content. One article I read attributed owners using cheaper non premium fuels in these engines. Porsche and several other manufacturers still use Nikasil coated blocks. Certain experts believe the Nikasil is plus over steel lined blocks. I have a Nikasil 2001 XKR with 80,000 miles on it and it runs like a top. Honestly I would not trade it for a steel lined block. Your car probably has the steel lines block, the cut off date was around August of 2000 the same time mine was built. but my engine was built in July of 2000, The engine # is hard to find go to your dealer and he should have the information. I was able to get all past service records and serial numbers of the major components. Good Luck
