Nav and Radio Stopped Working 2002 XKR 100
Help! It is like my sound system and nav got a virus or something. First I lost the left channel, then the right went, finally the navigation went as well. Jag dealer says it is the navigation module, which of course costs $2900, plus labor! I am leery and need to know if it has happened to anyone else.

sounds odd, don't recall a slow death such as that before. Did you try a hard reset of all computers?
If it were just the nav, i'd suspect a specific nav module, but to lose the left channel, then right...resulting in a blank nav, perhaps its the amp that went. I know that these audio/navigation modules communicate, and when one is removed (or just think lack of power or return communication) the whole thing doesn't work... I'd get back there in the boot, find the amp, and start checking power & function.
If it's not that...then could be the head unit. Again, if the head unit is removed (or not communcating with all of the other alpine Ai-net components) the nav will be dark (ok, you may get a clock, I do)
More info...and how about posting up in the New Member area for everyone to greet you properly.
Here's my welcome!

My 03 XK-8 had almost the same problem except I did not lose the nav.
After investigating I found that the Trunk vent which is just below the nav/audio stack had fell out of its mount and that allowed water thrown up by the rear wheels to enter the units. I too talked to the mecchies and was told the replacements would be in the Thousands.
Not liking that I opened up the Audio unit and found the water had been in them for some time and the power Transistors legs had corroded in half effectively killing all Audio output. It was a gradual decline until complete failure but it was still sounding pretty good when she went kaputt. I resoldered the corroded legs, repaired the trunk vent. and all was well.
Don't know if this could be your problem but ------Maybe-------
Good luck
