Navigation system problems

The Nav system in my '03 XKR is a pet peeve of mine. It is totally inadequate and the fact that they've never updated the disk is just awful. It has taken us on wild goose chases and round-about ways of getting places. In several less populated cities we frequent (but still cities of 75,000 to 150,000) it doesn't have any streets other than major highways. I've long since given up on this and use a small Garmin or my iPhone. I only use the Jag GPS for curiosity when highway driving.
I saw a posting/article, on another board showing someone who took apart their GPS and mounted a Garmin unit inside it hooking up it's power button to one of the buttons on the Factory GPS to switch it on and off - if I was more ambitious I'd do something like this.

With all of the great portable alternatives such as Tom Toms, Garvin, and even my HTC Incredible phone (great free navigator app that came with it), it is hard to believe that as recent as a couple of years ago you had to pay in the neighborhood of an extra $2K for a Nav option in a car.
