Somehow some very fine droplets of some chemical composition fell on the top surfaces of my 2001 xk8. I did not notice them as my car was parked in the driveway for 2 years as I had to rebuild the heads after two valve seats let loose. So I just recently was able to get it washed and spotted all these minute dings on the windshield and then when looking carefully at an angle all the spots on the paint.
One body shop was trying to tell me the windshield was from rocks and the paint spots from tree sap. I don't think so. These are all the same size about the head of a pin. The chemical ate though the clear coat and into the paint.
Anyone know of a good paint shop to do a complete paint job in California.
Of course I can't help with the repaint, but I can confirm that some tree saps can etch the finish. Before you go looking for a total repaint try wet sanding with 1000, then 2000 grit and then buff. The damage may not be as deep as it appears.
I know a shop in Fremont, they are a production paint and body shop. In other words, they are in the business of doing complete paint jobs at a reasonable prices with a reasonable turn around time. They are much better than a Miracle or Maaco shop. They painted my '70 Mustang and did a dent repair on my Son's Boxster. If you visit their website you'll see that they've painted everything from muscle cars to Mercedes. They are not a high zoot Concours shop but they can do a good job. It's called Almost Everything Auto Body https://www.autobodyfremont.com/p/auto-painting.html. Their basic paint job is around 900.00 and of course it can go up from there depending upon what your car needs and you want. I had my Flex recently repaired by a Caliber Collision shop in San Jose, and they did a perfect job. I asked if they would do a complete repaint and they told me it would be well into the multi thousands of dollars, they would prefer not to do a complete repaint.
Local Caliber Collision does fabulous work. Also VERY expensive. Redid bumper, left front fender and associated parts. Cost was 6k. Fortunately my insurance covered it. Would appreciate suggests on good reasonably priced auto body shop in Sacramento area.
