Apparently if the battery is disconnected I need a code for the radio to somehow reactivate it? I do not have an owners manual so that option is out. How else could I go about getting that code. I am assuming the same thing would happen if the battery went dead. Anyone who can help to get the code is greatly appreciated. Thank you
Mark
Easy answer is the dealer. Check with them to see what they need, likely a VIN and possibly a visit in person or proof or ownership.
There are online services that claim to have these codes available (for a fee), sometimes even for radios that need no code at all!
It is generally understood that most (but not all) factory radios in the US have no code. In the UK, most seem to need a code.
Finally, there are techniques you can use to avoid disconnecting power while swapping batteries. I believe battery service people generally do this to avoid resetting emission monitors, window stops and tripping radio codes.
Mark, Many on the forum here in the US have reported not needing a code. I had my battery disconnected for 2 weeks last month, and radio came back to life without a code.
Coded radios were STANDARD in the EUROPEAN market but are very RARE in the US market. There was a massive problem with radio theft in the UK in the 80's and 90's and this was introduced as a deterrent.
If you are very unfortunate and do have a coded radio, any JLR dealer can lookup the code using the VIN. Several online sources on the likes of ebay claim to be able to lookup the codes but success is reported as variable.
For completeness, here is the extract from the Audio Handbook about the security code:
