I can't address the MAF but I do know that these cars really don't like it when they don't get enough juice from the battery. They start throwing all sorts of codes. With a battery that old, I go ahead and replace it. If it's not the cause of your current problems, it'll be the cause of future problems.

A bit odd to have codes cleaned, and not to diagnose what is causing it (or have they?).
Chances are that the rich running could have come from the dealer working on your car (assuming you didn’t have it before).

A fan connector could become easily loose if you change belts (either via disconnecting it to remove the fan shroud, or being not careful with the belt release tool).

PS Can highly advise to have a code reader, that way you will already be able to check for yourself what codes are causing the RP.

With a code reader, you can read fuel pressure, MAF rate, 02 sensor data, manifold pressure, etc. Any one of these can help you find your rich codes, if that is truly a legitimate error. RP will activate if the fuel trims are outside of their respective ranges...lean or rich. You have to start diagnosis somewhere on an issue like this, eliminate one potential cause at a time.

It seemed odd to me, too, for the dealer to clear the codes and not have a good explanation. If it was caused by them working on it, it makes a little more sense...

Replacing the 6-year old battery makes sense. My wife really likes the idea. With a big grin on her face, she said, "I guess I'll have to drive it again next week!" She's really liking this car.

Was looking at code readers online and wondered if there are any that stand out as best deals. O'Reily's parts store loaned me what seemed a pretty nice one, and the price was great. Do I need to spend $200 for a decent one, or are some of the cheaper ones worthwhile? Will I likely need it so often that borrowing one from the parts store won't be enough?

Any idea what the ASC message meant?

I'm loving the reactions of people to the Jaguar. Even the idea that I have a Jaguar brings interesting reactions. Even some people who have no other interest in cars get excited about a Jaguar.

My 2002 xkr has about the same miles as yours. It is throwing codes periodically also. I have a 6+ year old battery that I will replace in the next week or so. I will post here what the effects on the codes are.

I have an obdii app for my Android that I love called Torque. it uses a blue tooth interface to talk to the car. Works great while running also. Check it out!

torque is pretty handy, gives you the basic stuff most other scanners will also. Just need to spend $20 on a bluetooth OBD connector, got mine on ebay. Other wired units you can get almost anywhere, no need to spend over $75, unless you jump up to a $500 software based scanner like AutoEnginuity that gives you all the module access others do not, like ABS, SRS, enhanced TCM and ECM, security module, body processor modules, etc.
