New Battery dying after one week????
Bought my first XK8 in December. After being stored all
winter, 2 weeks ago when I tried starting it, it didn't turn
over. I trickle charged it overnight, and the next day it
started, however with a bunch of error messages (no
traction, transmission fault, abs...) I shut it off to turn
it back on and it wouldn't turn. I went to autozone, picked
up a new group 49 (manufactured in March 08) and the car
started right up, no error messages.
One week later the car starts up, however I can tell the
battery is weak. (windows don't go back up to their settings,
and the convertible top stalls midway while opening).
My question is, does this car use up the battery that much,
while it isn't being driven? Do most people leave the
battery on a trickle charge if they use the car only on
weekends...?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

RE: New Battery dying after one week????
I would go back to AutoZone and have then check the battery/charging system. They can easily tell if there is a charging system problem or the battery. A third option is that there is an abnormaldrain when off. I have a battery of unknown age that sat idle over much of the Winter and never failed to start.

RE: New Battery dying after one week????
what year xk do you have
there is a fault with batt draw on certain vin ranges on the auto headlite swith
need year and last 6 of vin PM me and i"ll look it up for you
also for the error messages that is a sign also of a low charged batt
and the conv top function is most likely caused by either "GELLED" hydraulic fluid or leaking the system
windows must be reset anytime the battery is disconected
hope this helps
