New Drilled Rotors are damaged :(
Yesterday I finally received the replacements of the cracked rotors. Brake Performance was nice enough to honor their "life time" warranty - they shipped me replacements of two front rotors. Upon inspection I noticed that the inner side of one of the two rotors has scratches on it. Is this a show stopper? Should I be asking for another replacement or do these scratches have no affect on the performance of the brake system?

I am being paranoid as one of the rotors cracked after 3000 miles. I don't want to install the new ones only to go through same thing again. However, I read and value your (forum members) opinions. If you guys think it's not a big issue, I am ready and willing to get the new ones on the car asap.

If you run your fingernail across it, how deep does it feel?
From the look, it is probably just a mark in the zinc anti-rust coating, which will quickly wear off of the surface that the brake pads touch anyway.
A scratch would not cause your cracking problem. That indicates an issue with the casting process, which (I hope) is a one off problem and not something more systemic with the manufacturing of all their rotors.

Did your first set have those deep countersinks in the holes? I couldn't tell by your picture. Was thinking at the time that it would be a good idea to relieve the stress around the holes, and was surprised to not see them. Maybe they were full of dust in the picture. Have to do that with fiberglass gelcoat or it cracks like mad around any screw holes.

You'd think since these were a replacement for a defective set they would have checked them before shipping.

Running a fingernail over the scratch, I feel a tiny groove in the metal. I am rather upset that the company goes as far as honoring their warranty, but then shipping damaged rotors. I am certain that the scratches did not occur during the shipping as the packaging was good. I already took the same pictures as I posted here and emailed them to the service department. Let's see what they say.

The scratches will not alter the braking or the life of the rotors. Fooling with them will be wasting your time. When I get new rotors, I dgrease them with acetone and sand them with 80 grit to help the pads bed faster. They are covered with scratches just like this. If you put new rotors on without prepping, you could have serious braking problems while the coatings get worn off and the pads seat.
