Default new engine number

Hi,
I'm restoring my 1999 Coupe imported from UK and preparing the documents to register the car in Italy where I live.
trying to read the engine number I've found it underneath on a rib, not close to thermostat tower.
The number seems for a 2003's unit and there is also a NNGNO punched close to the number.
May this stand for new engine number?
If my engine was built in 2003 the chain tansioners are of the new metal type correct?
The mileage on the tachometer starts from the engine replacement?

That numbers on the left looks like the OE cylinder bore and piston codes:

The numbers on the right don't look like Jaguar applied ones.

Odd. If the engine # really is 030605 1621, doesn't that imply a 4.2L?
Location and format looks OK - see this post from GGG:

The engine number on a '99 should be at the side of the thermostat housing as shown in this post, also from GGG:

Can you see anything there?

jacopost,
Agree with michaelh, your engine number is a 4.2L engine.
See image of mine which is a 2003 XKR 4.2, but my engine number pre-dates yours!!

Interesting. I wonder if the car has had something similar to this done:

or this from smoggyx100:

Not for the faint-hearted

the 4.2 swap and all the labor wasn’t very expensive in the UK, there were a couple shops that know how to do it

i wonder if it has been changed to have better performances or due to an issue.
the v5c reports the original engine number, built in 1998
