New Guy Here - Please advise..
Just bought a 02 XKR coupe off Ebay - always wanted one - w/39K miles.I'm planning on driving it backhome this weekend from Newark, Delaware to Dallas, Texas. Questions:
1) Not going to have A/C on obviously - whereshould the indicator needle on the temp gauge be running at 75 - one passenger. It seems like coolant sealing may be an issue in reading the posts here.
2) This car I bought has the wooden shift knob - is this correct for 02 or should it have the X leather handle?
3) Any other things I should be watching out for in taking this bad boy on a 1300 mile drive?
Thanks in advance!!!!

i'd check to make sure the tire pressures are correct, every time I take mine into the oil change place, they always set it to 32psi all around...idiots. Staggered wheels are 32 front / 34 rear. on a 1300 mile trip, id hate to have it wrong and get some quick, uneven tire wear.
Wooden knob is MUCH cooler than the leather ones. Trust me, you'll like handling it while driving. lol. sounded bad...

H20 Boy....I also, in fact everyone at the dealer sets the tires to 32. Except the new XK because that is 33 rear and 30 front.
Just saying.
Anyway, check the oil levels and coolant levels before you go. Get it to operating temperature before you hand over the cash. Just let it idle and peridocially give it some gas so it warms up. Make sure heater comes on. Temp gauge should be bang in the middle.
Wood shift knob was correct for 2002.

Dont forget to pack a tool kit w/ screwdrivers, wrenches, sockets, duct tape, flashlight... you get the picture. It also wouldnt hurt to have some fuses. It would be nice to also have spare radiator hoses, belts, and head/tailight bulbs; but thoses are items you will probably pickup later as you work on regular maintenance. gordo

Thanks for all the tips guys - got back this AM with an 03 XKR Midnight/Cashmere coupe instead bought in Minneapolis from a Jaguar dealer. What a car, what a drive! - got it to almost 130 in Oklahoma. Is this color combination regarded as preferred by the Jaguar cognosenti? Also, there seems to be some condensation inside the headlight cases - is this a common problem and is there a cure?

Well, the first couple times I used the lights...my lights condensed as well, I think it is from the dealer prep/detailing using high pressure water/soap...gets into the headlights. Best way to get rid of it for good is to remove that clear plastic cover on the headlight (easy to see under the hood) and turn the turn signal bulb (and partially remove it from housing) to get some circulation going. It should clear up in an hour or so. Since then, I haven't had any condensation.
Can't wait to see the pics...nice choice on the cashmere interior, I think it stays nicer looking longer (and cooler) than the black does.
