new guy with a old XKR from china
i just bought a 2001 xkr 4.0sc with 30k miles from beijing. i'v checked all things in a offical dealer, they told me everything is ok just drive it.
so i plan to upgrade the power. i found 2 ways from internet to increase preformance.
one is upgraded supercharger pulley (Jaguar XKR 4.0 Supercharger Pulley – Upgraded supercharger pulley)
other one is a remaped ECU (http://shop.arden.de/jaguar/xk8/xk8-...increases.html)
which one is better for me? anyone has experience on this?
thank you
happy Chinese new year!

Ni Hao!
Here is my wife and I in a 2007 XR at the Beijing car show. They let me sit in it after I showed them a picture of my 2001 XKR.
You still need to worry about the cam chain tensioners as you move forward.
How about a twin screw SC, that's what I want to do.
Were are you going to be driving fast in Beijing anyway? Third Ring Road at 3 in the morning?

Welcome to the forum riem,
Happy New Year (of the Snake) to you too.
I hope the dealer backed up his statement 'just drive it' with a guarantee!
Good advice from Bill.
Before you go making upgrades, it's a good plan to put some miles on the XKR to make sure everything is OK. 30K is low miles in twelve years and Jaguars respond better to being driven. Little things like hoses and belts can give issues with age.
When you get a minute, please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST section and post some info about yourself and your vehicle for all members to see.

i'm glad to introduce classiccars in China.
As you know China was a closedcommunismcountry before 1979, in those years, private car was looked as a very evilthing. and a few of number import car from USSR, red Europe or Japan, justfor government. After 1979, China became to be a opening country, commonpeople were allowed to buy their own cars with avery high import tax. some of classic cars in China was got from that time. alot of Mercedes and Audi were imported, those were first part in classic cars.in 1992, after a very critical policytransformation, Chinese getting rich suddenly. From that time to 2009, many of smuggle cars imported in to market illegally, some were new cars, some were usedcars. All brand, but British, because left hand driving.
But, sorry for my bad English and long background story.
But, there are number of classic car collectors in China now, who just to buy classiccars from Europe. i know one of them who has a 1948 land rover and a old Austin.recently, some auto museums were built by public or private. its are showingoff some classic cars.
form 2011, a official classic cars racing was held by aprivate company.
you can check http://www.classiccarchina.org/2012/index_en.phpfor more information.
thank you~

Only one or two. Because xk8/r was never imported by dealers before 2006. In 2001,the price of a xkr is 1700k rmb. Even You can buy a luxury house in Beijing at that time. nobody will buy a xkr unless lost his mind.

To encourage local production there are some incredibly high taxes on cars that are strictly imports. Many of the bigger companies (VW, GM, etc) have set up local branches in China and actually manufacture cars there. Some are the same models we get, others are different entirely.
Since it was such a closed economy up until fairly recently the evolution of brands has been a little different than in the west. Scotch, for example, is a trendy young persons drink and doesn't have that stodgy old man sigma.
It's interesting to be there and see that Buick, of all things, is a very popular and youthful brand. They even have some small hot hatch type Buicks that no one else gets.

Cool, I have been traveling to china on business numerous times since 2005 and I have only seen one older Jag on the roads. German luxury cars have dominated that market sector for many years with the Buick brand also recognized very highly. I have heard that Jaguar have formed a new JV and will be setting up a manufacturing facility north of shanghai. I will certainly keep my eyes peeled next month for your XKR burning down the freeway..
