Maybe this is a stupid question, but (just to verify) the UK low (dip) beam lights are a projector-type, right?

Yes the UK ones are the projector type. Are the rear covers on your car in the form of a dome shape or flat ? The ones on my car are domed

The back has some dome to it, but it definitely flattens out (not domed all the way across.) It looks like the one below - is yours any different?

looks the same as mine (as I remember it but haven't looked at them since I fitted the bulbs) so I'm at a bit of a loss as to why they dont fit.

I'll try and have another look at mine tomorrow to see if they are different.

I noticed you use a bike as your avatar so I'll respond to your question with something comparable. I installed and hi/low LED bulb in my 2006 Triumph Speedmaster a couple of weeks ago and there is a big difference. It's still a 12V 55w light but produces a much whiter light with great definition. Since the bulb is a dual beam light it cost somewhat more but it was definitely worth it.

Lots of deer in the rural area of Florida where I live so a brighter white light that reaches further is a big plus. Good range ahead, great clarity and in my motorcycle headlight assembly a pretty wide beam.

Lightbulb Why replace the HID Light? Adjust it!

The way I solved my Headlight problems on my 2005 XKR Coupe was to have the HID (Low Beams) adjusted inside the Assembly...This raised the Beam back up to normal...Over time the Front-end drops an inch or so and pulls the (Low Beams) out of adjustment. Then, to solve the real problem, the High Beam Halogen Bulbs. I bought an LED replacement Light kit (with Fan) and took the entire Headlight out and replaced the High Beam......The LED Bulb uses the old Reflector and sticks-out about an inch farther....It looks super in there and you know how much brighter it is than Halogen....Super for night-time Highway/Freeway driving as you have both your HID's and your LED's on at the same time when you go to "Bright"! Oh and I replaced the HID Bulbs in the Low Beams as those Bulbs were 10 to 12 years old......so, beside being adjusted the new bulbs are about 50% brighter than the old ones......

You can almost see forever!!!!

Default Under $5 to fix the bulb clearance issue

Two 2" ABS pipe caps, 10 seconds with a 2" hole saw and some epoxy - should clear by plenty.

Default Answer to question I've wanted to ask

Thanks, BC. You answered a question I've been meaning to ask. I thought from the light color and brightnbess that my XK8 had HID low beams and halogen high beams but that combo seemed too ouutlandish to credit. What possessed Jaguar to do such a thing? I also like your solution to the shortcoming.
