Hello all, I bought my 1997 xk8 convertible about 3 weeks ago and just got done replacing the rear speakers due to the foam being disintegrated on the original ones. When I removed the side panel and top cap on the passenger side, I came across an orange wire that looks like it has been either crimped off or broken. it is about 6 inches long and appears to be coming from the trunk area next to the convertible top when it is down. there is also a large ground wire bolted in the same area. does anyone know what this orange wire is from? thx

Yes, the rear speakers sounded like crap and when I opened up the panels ( i found out that it was easier for me to remove the lower rear seat and take the side panels off, rather than try and remove just the grills) on both speakers, the foam was disintegrated due to age. at first I bought speaker repair kits for about 25 dollars from an online shop and repaired both speakers with new foam, but while I was waiting for the kits to be delivered, I came across some jbl 630 3 ohm coaxial speakers with an adjustable center tweeter for 89.00 us dollars on amazon and decided to try them. they sounded terrific, so I decided not to use the originals! The only change that I made was to extend the two speaker wires on each speaker by about 6 inches (very small gauge .22) because the soldered wires on the original were barely long enough to connect!

Yes, I am 70 yrs old, retired, and from Buffalo NY, I bought a one owner 1997 XK8 convertible, titanium color, with 43,000 miles! most of the problems that I've had so far have been from not being used, I think! The dealer that I bought it from in Pennsylvania was a little deceptive on some things. I vacuumed and recharged the A/C, replaced the rear speakers, did a temporary fix on the cup holders, (which was a nightmare) and am now looking for the center ac vents as 2 tiny peices of plastic that hold the louvers together have disintegrated, rendering the lovers useless, but between the cupholders and the vents are quite expensive! All in all, I have always wanted a Jag and this was affordable for me at this time. I'm loving the experience so far!

A belated hi and welcome to the forum.
Since any replacement will have the same built-in weakness, you could try a repair. I went the hard way and dismantled the whole thing, but an ingenious soul managed to replace the broken parts with some long-nosed tweezers. See this post from ng168s:

IMO the best fix for the Rube Goldberg cupholder is to source an armrest that doesn't have one![Big Grin](https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

Hello, Actually, I removed the whole top of the armrest and used JB weld on the broken hinge corners, but I put a small diameter sleeve of shrink tubing on the pin that goes into the hinge area that was broken out so the JB weld would not stick to the pin when it rotates open, seems to be working so far!

Welcome to this forum. The Best source for any information on X100 Jags. Most of it is reliable.
As you might have found, the cup holder is just shy of useless. The best solution(usually) is a compliant passenger.
I had bad rear speakers in my 2006 when purchased("Everything is in excellent condition", from the dealer). Since the rear seat is also just shy of useless, I did a full rear seat delete, and replaced the speakers, added a couple of extra speakers, and added a useable package shelf with lockable compartments on either side of the 'hump'. Now I have something useable behind my front seats.
Most dealers are also just shy of reliable.
