Hi everyone,I just picked up my father's 01 xk8 and it's a Massillon be on here asking plenty of questions I'm sure. This car is a complete project. It's been sitting (at least since he passed ) a year and a half dead battery with the top down in his garage with mostly broken windows. Top would not go up when jumped and yes it started and ran off a jump. Covered in mold, dirt, and general debris. I've ordered a battery, plugs, filters, oil, even cabin air. I've vacuumed, and started to clean interior. I am curious why there is a tweeter grill behind the passenger sear but not the drivers seat (alpine system). here's some pictures

Well, it started and that's got to be a plus.
Welcome and glad you want to put it back together.
Check the fluid in the top motor, may be empty because it all leaked out at the rams.
Good luck.

The “tweeter” is actually part of the airbag ultrasonic sensor system, not part of the stereo.

Be advised the gagues in the middle and coolant temp gagues are not real true reading gagues. I had an 01 xk8 silver convertible and noticed before I purchased, the oil pressure gague just goes to the middle. The coolant temp is computer controlled to look like it's heating up but quickly plants itself about center. You do have an warning light for high temp and if the warning light comes on that gague will peg high. So fyi don't read mote into those gagues than idiot lights. You can rewire and replace with real accurate gagues later and the kits are available via a member and link on here. If you don't have the owners manual you can get those through links on here as well.

Welcome to the forum. This is the most informative place to go for info. Be patient with us but all you answers are here. SOMEONE will know what you need and help, EVERYONE os helpful here. My suggestion is: read, read, read the forum. Learn to search and the the answer is likely there but don't let that stop you from asking. Everyone wants you to succeed in reviving this car, nice of you to do that and that will be a fine tribute to your Dad. We all should be blessed with son willing to do that.
Good luck, TM

this isn't new as far as working on older cars, just my first European. About 5 years ago I did a fairly large restoration on the father in laws 86 f250 (he bought in 89). I welded floors, rockers, cab corners, patched holes in doors, fully redid interior, fixed frame rot, brakes and some crude paint and body work. I'm also currently restoring my 1958 harley FL panhead 95% original parts being used. The most nerve-racking thing about this one looks to be the tons of interior plastic parts that are dried and cracked or missing. None the less adventurer awaits.
