Newbie with a few questions.......
I've just purchased a 2000 XK8 base convertible with 58,000 miles. This is my 5th Jag (an XK150 coupe, 3.4 Mk 1 sedan, 3.8 Mk 2 sedan, and 1972 XJ6 have gone before), but by far the most modern one. In the past I've rebuilt Jag engines and transmissions and have the mental and physical scars to show for it, but I'm approaching this ownership with an optimistic spirit. So far, the honeymoon is going well. I've researched the usual suspects; tensioners, chain guides, transmission failures, etc. and feel pretty comfortable overall with my purchase. I just need a few answers:
[*]Does this car have a cabin filter and, if so, how does one go about changing it?
[*]I have an air leak at the juncture of the driver's window and the rear quarter window. Is this a common problem, and is it easily fixed with new weatherstripping?
[*]Best motor oil to use (partial or full synthetic)?
I'm sure that all of these questions have been asked numerous times by other newbies, and I've tried researching them within the forum, but have been buried in information. Any referrals to existing files/threads etc. would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Max

Cabin filters in these ragtops are extremely rare. The consensus is that the owner had to request one to be fitted by the factory or added by the dealership in order to get one. But think about it - how much good would a cabin filter do in a ragtop anyway?
OEM weatherstripping is extremely pricey, so be sure to shop around before you pull the trigger....
Run whatever oil makes you sleep at night. Jaguar actually calls for conventional oil in these cars, usually 5W-30. Check your owners manual, and check the top of your oil filler cap. Much more important is simply performing regular oil and filter changes. Jaguar specifies every 10,000 miles. I think that's a little too long and I prefer a 6,000-mile interval. Whatever floats your boat....

As long as you are adjusting the windows anyway, consider adding Jagwranglers remote. It made the time to adjust my windows worth it.

I've only had it installed for 2 days and can't believe how much I use it.

Newbie with a few less questions.....
Thanks to everyone that provided all of that invaluable information. I had logged on to the forum as guest before joining and got the recommendation of Charles "Chuck" Whitney as a supplier of well-made boot covers. Just got mine today and am extremely pleased with the quality and workmanship.
As far as the remote for the convertible top; sounds great, but a little pricey for me right now. It might appear as a birthday present for me in September, however.
