"No Disc" error

"No Disc" error
Hi all,
Sorry If this has been discussed before - couldn't find it via the usual searches....
My Dad has handed off his '04 XK8 to me. When I drove the car from FL to NY a year ago, the CD changer was working fine (except for not playing a home burned CD - I’m ok with that). A week ago, I drove it from NY to my home in VA and the changer would not work at all - kept saying “No Disc” when there clearly were CDs in the magazine. And I’m certain they were right ways up, too (per both the illustration on the magazine and in the audio system handbook). In fact, one of the CDs I had with me was used for the FL-NY trip last year, but now the changer would not recognize it.
I’m thinking there’s a simple fix here somewhere, but I’m at a loss… Maybe just blow some canned air in to clean dust out?
Thanks,

there is a worm gear that will loosen over time - cd changer will need to be removed and case opened. use a bit of loc-tite and tighten the worm gear and should clear

Does anyone know of any posts on HOW to remove the CD changer from the trunk of the X100 XKs? I have an 01 XK8 and 06 XKR and both magazines were stuck. I used the screwdriver handle whack method of get them to eject. I put a very light coat of WD40 on the rail and even lighter coat on the bottom slots for the rails on the magazines. No problem now. They both eject repeatedly. The 06 is just fine. The 01 worked once, I was able to cycle through the 6 CDs then turned the car off, ejected the magazine, loaded it, turned the car on, CD player did its usual disc check. It seems to know that all 6 discs were there, then after finishing that it said "No disc"..
So assuming the nut on the worm drive is loose. But how do I remove the CD changer?
I am assuming there is a thread for it, just could not find it.
Thanks!

there are 2 phillips head screws on each side of the cd changer holding it in place. The first time I removed it, I used a small phillips bit and a pair of vise grips wedged between the outer frame and the cd-changer/mounting bracket to loosen the screws. It is a pain in the a$$.. If you can find a small 90degree offset phillips that may work as well. Once I removed the cd-changer, I drilled a couple of holes in the outer frame to allow a phillips screw driver to be used for future removal/replacement efforts (have removed 3 times) in 11 years
