Default Noisy engine when cold

Hello Everyone!

I have a 2000 XK8 w/106K miles. When cold, if I tap the gas just a little too much, the engine/powertrain makes this whirring, rattling grinding sound off the line, which continues through the shifting until reaching speed. At speed it stops, and after getting completely heat soaked it stops during further shifting and sometimes off the line.

I had the belt replaced and tensioner adjusted a while back and that helped, but alas it has regressed. Had some pulleys replaced w/no effect.

I understand that the XK8 used to come with nylon pulleys, if so would it help to go back to those? If not, what could the problem and solution be?

Thanks!

Russ

As a 2000 model the exhaust camchain tensioners on each cylinder bank come to mind straightaway. I suggest you take the cam covers off for inspection asap if not before. Engines are wrecked when these let go. If they haven't been replaced, its time to replace them.
