Octopus Hose how to? RESOLVED
On Monday, according to the USPS tracking site, I should be getting in the mail my shiny new octopus hose, three way connector, heater feed pipe, and throttle body gasket. Thanks to one of our forum members who had all of the parts brand new just waiting for a new owner, this all cost me only $249.65 total.
Could anyone provide me with instructions on how to do the job? After this I plan on taking a long road trip.
Also, keeping in mind that this year I've replaced the following:
What else, besides the valley hoses, should I change for the cooling system?
PS. I checked my water pump and it is working as designed.

I just replaced mine on my 03. I would look over your new one first and get an eye for the lay out and just go in and take it off (the old one). The connector on the passenger side of the hose , the old one I just used a screw driver and gently busted it off. At 96k it was not going just spin off as some suggest in other threads on this repair. Maybe for you it will. When you get that hose off take some fine grit sand paper to clean up the metal tube. On that tube also, check the smaller hose forward of the connector that goes up and back to the EGR (behind the TB), mine was bloated pretty bad coming off that metal connector tube.
Also on my car when I had all the connections off the octopus hose I just started pulling it through from the drivers side but found it was hanging up on something. I found that about dead center of the hose, back of motor at the firewall mine was snap tied to some smaller hose, looked like a vac line to me. You will need to cut that tie off or you may pull off what ever that hose was if you have the same set up.
The rest of the job is easy. It took a bit of time getting off but no time putting it on. Just take your time. You will skin up your knuckles and curse at the car.
You may want if you don't have them already is by the tool used to take off the type of clamps these cars use. It is a easy job really, just tight quarters to work in.
Take off the TB it will be much easier.

This thread touches a little on some of the hose replacement stuff I have done. Note in post 23 the bloated hose I referred to in the pic in that post on the right. You can see the pass side valley hose coming in from the right also.

as the threads suggests, pull the hose out from the drivers side. Note they had the same tied to something issue as I did keeping it from being pulled. When ya put on the new one, push it back through from the drivers side. I forget where it routed on mine but as he says in this link there is a black something or another that is tucked back where the hose run past. You don't have to take it out or loosen. I didn't. I think the hose runs behind it, make note of the routing before you take out the octo.

I received the parts today.
I am surprised, I thought the octupus hose was a great deal bigger; the pictures deceived me. It's actually quite small. I guess that goes with most things on this car.
This will be a fun weekend for sure. I think I'll need a step ladder.
How can I protect the paint on the fenders while I am working? Will a clean towel work, or do I need something more delicate?

I did this fix yesterday. There is a special place in hell reserved for the engineer at Jaguar who decided to say "screw the sodding ******* that has to change this hose". My knuckles are properly busted.
It took me quite a few hours to get it out, and about 40 minutes to get the new one back in. I also changed the heater feed pipe which was heavily corroded and the three way connector. My old octupus hose broke in half when I finally got it out! It crumbled in my hands!
I did manage to screw something up though. I broke (and mended) a plastic line that runs from the passenger side fender to the throttle body, as well as a ribbed plastic tube that goes from the fuel rail backwards towards the firewall. I have no idea what they do, I should buy new ones. For now, however, nothing is leaking, I have no codes and the car is running smoothly.

On my 03 it has to do with the Brake system, vacuum I guess, so I was told by the online place I sourced my parts from. That plastic line (mine has some type of mesh/cloth that covered it) goes into the TB, as it passes through the TB there is a plastic snap on the outside side of the TB that holds the plastic tube in place and inside the TB wall there is a O-ring in there that on my 03 with 96k, when I took it apart was hard as a rock. You can buy a kit to replace those things if you take it apart. The line passes through a brass fitting (that is press into the TB wall) that holds the oring. That comes with the kit. In my case I did not need that part, just used the plastic thing that held the plastic tube and the new oring.

That one from the pass shock tower to the side of the TB elbow is for vacuum for the brakes in some fashion I was told.. Did you fix that? Did you ever take it out of the TB Elbow???
