I've been seriously considering building one of these. Doing so might keep my hands off the Jag - thus saving it from my constant "fiddling about."

Nicely bought!

The Miata is one of my favorite cars of all time. It's a million times more fun than my XKR will ever be. You will have a smile on your face every time you drive it! That assumes you have a stick!

I agree, I bought a new in 2008 miata hard top retractable, drove it for 2 years but hated the 4 cylinder engine, it was low on power, noisy, buzzy, poor gas mileage, and the car itself was cramped and uncomfortable. I thought the steering was nice, handled like a go-cart, but the back end skipped around when cornering if bumpy, made for an unsettling drive. In addition, the ride was harsh. I will never forget that the first month in my XK8 I was bracing for the road bumps that I had come to anticipate in the Mazda and I was always surprised when the Jaguar smoothed them out. Anyhow, I made an even trade for my 2004 XK8 that had about the same miles on the odometer, and have been happy since. I think the dealer was happy as I suspect the Miata is easier to sell than the Jaguar.

Phil- are you high?

I think if I found a Miata for that cheap, I'd be going nuts with enthusiasm and the possibilities as well. Erm, have fun!

You don't need to do a kit to make the Miata an XK, it already is a baby XK! They look so similar from the front and front-side that all you'd really need to do is put a few Jaguar badges on it and you could fool people. lol

Oh, and grats on the score! Even if you have to completely redo the interior, $700 is a steal!

I'd agree, make it a track car!

Well, I wasn't high when I bought it! But......
I've actually started really cleaning it up, ordered new swat covers, replaced the headrest speakers only to find the wires were never connected. That's all done now.
Recovered ruined door panels, having carpet cleaned since I think it's relatively new. Painted out bottom half matte black (it had bad lower paint) added pinstripe, tinted the side markers, and tail lights,
Basically keeping it a miata, just tricking it out since that's what most of the younger guys want, but doing it right. Let them fiddle with the engine as it drives great right now.
Just waiting on the rear spoiler, seat covers, blue carbon dash kit, driver window regulator. And painting the wheel spokes black.
Already had an offer of 3000.00!!! Omg! What was I thinking!! A miata!!-image.jpg

Love the rear view!! I took the time to mask the reverse lit before I tinted tail lights. Reminds me of the newer XK!
Remember, this car was all white in ruff shape!! I was able to salvage the paint above the middle area so the trim black lower half erased most of the worst part!!
I'm kinda amazed myself how good it actually is looking!! Omg! What was I thinking!! A miata!!-image.jpg

I have always liked the Miata in a general way and applauded the handling. However, you have really surprised me with the simple change of the lower black paint. It's really striking! I know the pictures are of the 10' variety, but WOW, I like it.

Maybe I should check out the Mazda classifieds after I get my front shock mounts replaced?

Some interior shots when you're done please.

Just finished sanding upper windshield rail and painted it trim black and the side mirrors. Both were really bad.
Added racing stripe as well. Front to rear.
Started me thinking maybe I'll do a wide flat black stripe down the center of my black XK8. May be HOt!!
