Ongoing DSC/ABS Module quandry?

Previously reported a suspected problem with the Module (C1267 & C1295). Removed the module (3 Attaching bolts vs 4 Bolts) and sent to West Coast repair service with stated repair cost of $100 + S&H. They returned it saying not repairable and the CPU was burned, unrepairable. Looked like it had been opened? Was charged S&H both ways, no cost for diagnosis . Next researched more repair services and range from $200-$350). Chose a service in New York who replied the had a 90% success rate on repairs on for the later module. Sent the module to them prepaid. End of week e-mail from them indicated they were returning it an working condition. They advised it did not require opening the module, but re installing software that had been erased by possibly another defective component. Research reveals the 4 ABS sensors, Steering Angle sensor, Yaw Rate Sensor and Possibly Speedo & ECM are all components providing data to the DSC module. Does anyone have any input on if Software could be reinstalled or how the one shop described a Burned CPU and another did not open but reinstalled software to get it operational? The C1295 was Steering Angle Sensor, could be be defective? Both codes were stored permanent codes. There are no active codes at this time, just P1111. Unit to arrive by UPS on Wed, hope to install and have no problem. but skeptical? Please share some insight on this strange situation?

Kstevusa,
Lots of things may have happened.
No.1 if an Indy garage can’t read the module through their OBD2 scan tool, they’ll probably say it’s burnt out
No.2 inputs through sensors etc can’t possibly re-write the module’s firm ware programming
No.3 It’s entirely possible someone tried to reprogramme the module software but were unsuccessful - happens a lot when power goes out during the software download.
If a dealer garage has problems with a module, they just replace it. Obviously they don’t waste the time attempting to repair what they have. Plus they have the advantage of all the car’s programming tools.
All this doesn’t help you as all you can do is install the re-programmed unit and hope it works. Buying a second hand module always comes with compatibility risks as you don’t have 100percent history with it.
Just my .02cents...

Had the good fortune of an independent Jag repair expert having a ABS module on hand. He lent it to me and it worked on my 2001XKR, confirming mine was bad. He was a little disappointed since the module was removed from another customer and he thought it may have been bad. Sent mine for repair but no luck, was returned for more repair but still bad. I bought a series of them on ebay with return policies and the 4th "used" module worked without any codes.
Note: My control unit: LNF2210AD ABS+TCS.

We have accumulated about 60 miles and the Message & ABS Warning Light still on. Scanned again and NO DTC CODES in ECM. The previous 2 permanent codes are not present now. Located a compatible assembly on E-Bay at reasonable price. Will proceed with the other assembly. The difficult part was my Ate Module had series #, but no Factory Part # on it. Being early 2003 production, there were 2 possibilities. Fortunately the Modules mount differently to control unit, Early has 4 bolts (JLM21323) & later use 3 bolts (C2N3651). FYI- There are 2 or 3 DSC fuses in pnl. on the left inner fender fuse comp. and 1- 20A. in the luggage comp. (#2 fuse). Hope this helps another person who could have this situation occur. Hope to close this episode with the replacement unit. Will post with updates when install is complete.

Most recent reply suggested querying the Module. How? The only tool available to us is a Scanner through the ALDL (OBD2) port. Advise if more info available?
UPDATE: Purchased a LKQ Pump/Module/Control assembly from a 2004 XK8. Installed, reconnected harness and bled the brakes. Worked great, but the ABS and amber MIL light still on. Re -scanned with results of C1295 only related code + a U2202 (ECM invalid Config.?). The C1267 code is no longer displayed so perhaps the Module was also defective and S.A.S. (C2N1794) is only item remaining. Strange the Module & S.A.S. failed in short time frame. The car had displayed the DSC Fault message intermittently over the past 5 years, but would clear when the ignition was cycled on an off. With the DTC C1295 code, it appears the only item needing replacement is the S.A.S. Requesting additional input regarding suggestions + any overlooked items?

What is the S. A. S? Thanks.

Hi Kelly,
Now I remember. Thanks for jog. Remember the discussion re other items out there that could affect your module? I mentioned the SAS as an item to check because the YAW RATE AND LATERAL ACCELERATION SENSORS CLUSTER pulls it's power from the two power leads (red wire and black wire) that go to the SAS. There is a red wire and a black wire that go directly from the module to the SAS. Along the way, there is a connector / tap that has a red wire and a black wire going off to the Yaw Rate etc Cluster. This could be the site of an intermittent power issue to the SAS and maybe the Yaw etc cluster. Look for stray strands in that connector. Also check the insulation of those wires. Hopefully that is the issue and not the SAS.

First time we removed the 4 lines to the calipers. Barely adequate to R&R the Module only. Either way requires removal of the W/S washer filler neck. On this operation, the complete assembly was R&R, so we removed the 4 and the 2 to the M/C. 3 (T30?) attaching bolts to bracket and complete assembly comes out,no problem. Bleeding brakes were no problem. Bleed each port beginning with (2) M/C & (4) Caliper lines. Next we did calipers, we have E-Z Bleed Nipples on calipers. Plug in the harness connector and finished. The C1267 code vanished leaving only the C1297 (Steering Angle Sensor). Have this on order at present. The U2202 points to possible ABS/DSC re-configure.

Additional help with the 2 codes noted, C1295 Steering Angle Sensor and U2202 Module needs configuring. The C1295 was originally listed in first scan along with Module defect. The U2202 appeared once the ABS/DSC under hood Assembly had been replaced. #1. Appears the S.A.S. should be replaced? #2. The U2202 is a bit confusing. Would this indicate the ABS Module need configuring with IDS/WDS programing?
Need some expert suggestions.

The only configuring for the module is if a NEW part is fitted OR a really old part that lost the config due to the capacitors discharged.(lost config)
In this case the module 'thinks' it is NEW.
I posted the list of parts compatible with the MY and Trac or EXCEPT Trac modules 1997 to 2003.
IF the part is confirmed to be the correct part but displays WRONG PART FITTED, it will need WDS/IDS to configure as NEW PART to the CAN bus and it will be OK.

Thanks for suggestion on the WDS programing. The replacement assembly had been removed in 2019 and on the shelf for a seemingly long period. That confirms it probably needs to configured to my car. U2202 Down. Next the C1295, Steering angle sensor code, would you just replace it and expect the new part to complete the ABS/DSC repair problem? Seems logical to me.

Have you looked into doing a calibration?

I don't know if the Steering Angle Sensor can be monitored with DATALOGGER.
Steering angle sensor circuit(s): open circuit, intermittent open circuit,
short circuit to B+ voltage, short circuit to ground, high resistance
Steering angle sensor failure
I have never needed to diagnose or repair that system but I would start by looking at the readings from the SAS to the ABS/TCS module.
Some 'high-end' diagnostic readers can provide data in real-time while the device is operated.(turning the steering wheel)
WDS/IDS has the DATALOGGER feature but some sensors are not listed for live readings.(never tried the SAS)

Thanks for suggestion and your help. For RJ, Yes, the cruise works great!
We did perform a S.A.S. reset procedure by centering the steering straight ahead, turning key to position #2 (short of start) and turn left to stop, turn right to stop. Then we did this the 2nd time and return to center and turned key to Off. Appears the sensor is either defective or the sensor wheel on shaft is loose. Lastly; maybe a loose connector but either requires a R&I of the Wheel, Air Bag and Clock Spring to verify. This Code has been consistent since this episode first occurred. Thanks again for you guidance. Have a Great Labor Day Holiday
