P0335 but it aint the crank
Hello this is my first post I've been posting over at xk8.net for years but I haven't got any help on this issue over there so here it goes.
I just did a total engine rebuild and after I put the thing back together I got a P0335 (CKP Sensor Error). I went to Jag and bought another.
Car started and ran, ran like crap because timing was off but it still ran. So now I have everything together and I was letting the car run, while i was finding a coolant leak. Then after about 30 mins of running it would just DIE!
I'd tried to start it and NOTHING it would just spin.
Checked the fuel Rail so I know fuel is present (plus I can hear the pump)
Pull a plug and prop it against the engine and I get NO spark. So I test the Coils for voltage. PRESENT
Check connection of Coils to ECU. PRESENT
I took this time while it was acting funny to go ahead and pull the valve covers and set the timing. After that (about 30 mins). I hop in and she starts RIGHT up. So I somehow relate this to timing and keep on moving.
Long story short that same thing happened two more times and now it Will NOT start. I pull the OBD codes and kicks back P0355 but the damn sensor is NEW. Just to make sure there was no short I ran a direct wire from the CKP Sensor to the ECM.
Also according to JTIS manual even if CKP is bad the car will still start after 5 seconds of cranking and use the CMP Sensor1 for calibration instead.
Does anyone have any damn clue what this could be? The car could NOT start for 30+ mins and then Fire right up and run perfect for 30mins before dieing.
Is my whole damn ECU bad? Please help.

Ok so here is what is happening.
I come back outside today and try and crank it after letting it sit lastnight. It fires up and dies immediately.
Pull code and get P0355 (crankshaft) and amber alert on dash
Clear code and try and crank again
Starts and dies immediately but this time kicks out a p0341 (camshaft) code
Clear that code and try to start again and its back to p0355
WTF!!!???
So I unplug the camshaft sensor and try to start
This time P0340 (camshaft again but ciruit malfunction instead of range)
I disconnect camshaft sensor on bank 2 and try and start..... So you would THINK I'd get the DTC code for Sensor 2....NOPE I dont get any code at all!
I think my computer is on its cycle and need 7 days to feel better but I aint got 7 DAYS!
I unplugged ALL the sensors, unplugged the ecu, disconnecetd the battery, hell I even shut off the power in the garage! I'm going to give it 30 mins and go out there and start fresh and see if the computer forgets that its broke (fingers crossed)

Last update:
I talk to a my local mechanic (not a a jag specialist but a good mechanic) he comes up with the idea that maybe the new sensor is bad from something striking it on the fly feel because the air gap is off.
So I bought a ANOTHER new sensor and put it on yesterday.......NOTHING!
However here is what did work. I had the ECU disconnected while I ran some short and high voltage test on the crank sensor (again) but this time instead of hooking up the ecu with car off. I turned the car on and then connected the ECU (of course dash was lit up like a christmas tree).
But after that I turned the key back and then back on and she started RIGHT UP!
....
.....
.......
Ran for about 20 mins. and DIED! WTF!
Tried that trick again last night and NO luck! I just printed off the wiring diagram for the car and I am about to go check on the grounds. After this I am clueless... PLEASE HELP! Is ECU BAD? Anyone know someone that car re-flash it........can I???? ;-)

Not that I can think off.Good new however!I came out and checked all grounds going to ECU and found no Open connections BUT the ground "LF1" (left front 1) that bolts to the engine was not connected.I tightend it and she started right up. Now i dont know if this is another fluke or not but im hoping she's running for good.Im sitting at the gas station now stranded however because the battery cable must of slipped off the battery and i pulled out the garge with only my valet key, lol. Ive got my niece on the way to me.When i get back home il

...RAIN!
We had some flooding. I was out driving and it sucked up some water and blew a rod!
Insurance has been running me in circles so I'll have to pursue legal action with them.
Car has been running fine since! Except I am getting a P0341 which is the cam sensor and I do really think the cam sensor is bad.
Not that I can really explain what the ground did but if I had to take a guess I would say....
The cam sensor was the defective part the entire time. The ground being disconnected somehow effected the signal to the ecu so it thought the crank sensor there therefore would not start and couldn't go into backup mode which allows the car to start via the cam sensor because that's what was actually screwed up!
Now I just gotta top off the trans fluid and see if this antifreeze leak comes back and SHE'S BACK!
................and for sale,lol.
