Phone mount - I Love IT!
Well it looks like I forgot how to caption the photos, let me explain it here.
I've been trying to find a place for my phone/charger - it always seems to be in the way of something. Then it hit me: Suspend it with a goose neck support (like one that holds a microphone).
I was able to attach one end to a handy (I didn't even know it was there!) flat gold vertical mount behind the radio. I chose a square piece of Indian Rosewood to attach the charger to the support.
Since I struggled with the final shape of this wood, I'm including early photos when it was a block with sharp 90degree edges. I thought: should it be kept angular like this or should I round it off?
As you can see I went with rounded edges, glad I did. I was able to mount the phone charger universal ball pivot recessed into this wood. I can turn the display horizontal, vertical, aimed at driver, aimed at passenger - all with ease.
This project worked out so well I wanted to share it. The photos with the phone in the charger are the final outcome. It sits without blocking anything, or anyone (passenger for example).

I wanted to share a few learning from this job too:
1) if you are ever thinking of replacing your gear shifter knob and work with wood once in a while, do consider buying a piece of East Indian Rosewood. Very very hard wood, but it can be sanded down to a mirror shine with fine enough sandpaper. The reason I'm suggesting this is for some reason it just feels wonderful in your hand. Age lightens this wood. Unprotected it matched the burled walnut color before I started sanding it.
2) there is a huge (relative term) space accessible behind the radio by just pulling the carpet back. This may help you with a future project.
3) the paint for my leathers repair kit is a perfect color match. You can use it on other car parts as you like.
A year or two ago I replaced my upper door mounted "sail" super tweeters with a mid range tweeter pod from an Infinity brand car speaker. Unfortunately this part came prepared silver, didn't match too well.
Folks once asked me to post a photo of them. I decided to oblige once I finished making it look good. I pulled out the leathers repair paint and got to work before posting the final photos for this job.
It was a wonderful improvement. You can see them in my final head on photo.
So this allows me to meet that request for photo, gosh I forget who asked sorry it took so long. More importantly I can endorse the perfect color match from the leathers repair paint. It matchrs,so well I'd really recommend using it instead of other off the shelf touch up paints.
