Default Pictures of Failed Later Gen Water Pump

Just wanted to post this info for posterity.

Replaced the original black plastic water pump @ 107K in June of 2006 after it blew.

Last week heard a funny squeal from up front when I started the car, lasted a few seconds and went away. Next day lasted a little longer, so popped the hood and determined water pump.

Had a spare pump so I changed it out right away. Car is now @ 192K so it looks like even the later gen pumps can still fail. Got 85K out of it, so not to bad but is there a metal finned pump out there for our cars? I still remember fishing those black fins out of everywhere, and replacing the hose they took out too.

Wanted to check the old pump and first noticed the bearings didn't feel bad but didn't spin freely compared to new pump. Took off the cover to find the outer plastic ring seperated from the main fin body. I know my first pump gave me no warning, just saw the temp gauge shoot up while driving.

3rd times a charm, right guys

Very unusual for this to happen with the pump, have not heard about it before unless in combination with overheats or so, so this is the first one I would know of.

Have heard of many issues with the metal impellers (especially leaking), and if you choose to go that path, you also need to change your coolant as ours doesn’t have any additives (like silicon) that protects against cavitation as it is't needed for the plastic ones.

Car has never overheated since the original pump. Haven't had any issues with cooling system since 2006. Just wanted to post to let other members know that the new pumps aren't perfect. I am in the Chicago area so maybe cold winters have some effect.

Actually, these are vehicles... and while there are many common and uncommon problems that are the usual culprits, really anything can break.

I had a failed solenoid under my supercharger manifold that caused a high pitch whine in the engine compartment that you couldn't specifically pinpoint. Nobody here even had a clue what it could be.

Even my mechanic, as well as the mechanics at my local Jaguar dealer had never seen this part break. So, anything can happen.

What does the solenoid do?

I have no clue except that it didn't throw any codes. This is the item that is no longer available from Jaguar. My shop had to buy one from Jaguar Heaven. My mechanic had never even heard of one of these going bad before. Go figure.

My guess is a Bypass Valve Actuator that activates when the throttle is suddenly closed.
