Hi.

In some cases, especially problems with the security system, the only solution is to take the car to a dealer which has a SDD connected to the factory system.
I have a SDD/IDS up an running, but despite that I would need a terribly expensive subscription to solve some security problems.
Gus' answer is probably correct.

Nick,
Not sure if this will work, but, try pulling the fuse for the security system. It will have a yellow plastic cover on it, easily removed.

It might allow you to get the car started. Then put the fuse back in if it works and then see if the car will start.

F10 20A in the trunk fuse box.

May save you the cost of a tow truck.

Now this description is for a Ford. But it is the same fault for the Jag. This is a very clear description and it may give you a solution. Basically though it goes back to my earlier suggestion. Try your other key. If it does not work then read this link for why. P1260 , on 2001 ford f150, with a 4.6 - Fixya

Many thanks again to all. I've just been catching up with the latest comments and have been working through all the suggestions.

The car is booked in for my local Jaguar garage on the 20th and I've got to get it trailered there!?!...I'm hoping that I solve it before then as I'm starting to see lots of ££££££££££ signs!

Fingers crossed it is not going to be too expensive and, of course, I will continue to keep everyone updated.

Yes, tried both keys many times. It has been a good six weeks now since it worked. I just hope Jaguar can repair it without a huge bill and all is good...I'm really missing her! :-(

I will keep everyone updated as promised and hopefully, when mended, my experience will help other owners in the future. Roll on Friday the 20th!

Hello All,

As promised, here is the latest update on my car....She is FIXED!!! :-)

I managed to get her trailered to Guy Salmon of Maidstone on Friday and picked her up today!

The problem was the KEY TRANSPONDER MODULE. It was not responding and has been replaced. The total price for the work including the replacement, 2 hours fault finding and a health check was £521.11 including VAT.

I'm sooo relieved she is back and working again.

I thank everyone once again for all there help and I hope this thread helps other XK8/XKR owners in the future.

Once Christmas is out of the way, I will start tackling a few other bits and pieces that I would like to sort out on her (1. being a slight leak around the pillar/window seal on the drivers window 2. The dreaded rust forming on the rear arches). Am I right in thinking I should start a new thread for any new issues?

Anyway, this is the best Christmas present I could have hoped for (except maybe for the new XK 5.0 I was looking at in the showroom!?!) and I wish everybody a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Thanks again

Nick

Thanks for the update Nick, glad you are now running again.

Always good to start a new thread for different subjects.

Enjoy the holidays.
