Please indulge me another non-starting thread, specific PRND switch question.
Ladies/gents...
Car is a 1997 XK8 convertible.
I will say ahead of time car has been sat for long periods of time, BUT, it has been driven.
Recently refused to start in Park, so had to start it in Neutral.
After short journey, turned car off and has refused to start since.
J gate switches checked and bridged with no change to problem.
All fuses and relays appear good. NO FUEL PRESSURE AT RAIL.
NO 12V FEED TO FUEL PUMP.
Specific question: "Will a faulty/failed rotational switch on the side of the gear box interrupt the electrical feed to the fuel pump as a means of avoiding cylinder wash when the car is not set to start but cranking?"
Car cranks but will not fire. Sputters momentarily on starer fluid sprayed in MAF tube (upstream). Does this imply I have spark? Will check.
I will draw OBD codes if car complies, check spark plugs, etc but I just need to know if a killed fuel pump feed is a correct response before I start chasing things please.
Reading more and more, will check inertia switch also.....
Car has fuel in it, but zero pressure at fuel rail.
Thanks,
K9

Sorry to hear of your woes, but I'm sure with others help here you'll get her started and running in no time. You said there is no 12V to the GasPump, so it seems to me a problem upstream from there. You could do the Pump Jumper to check pump, I can't remember specifics but there are posts on testing the pump by jumping 12v to the connector and listening for the pump to spin (do a search on gas pump). That would at least eliminate or detect one issue.

Fuel pump IS working....
OK, so 12V across the pump terminals makes the pump spin and causes fuel to be moved up to the rails.. (pressure not checked)...
I've still got no voltage to the pump and (I think) no spark on cranking. Fuses appear good, all relays appear to be well seated, power to fuel pump relay, but not fuse. Relays swapped out, no difference.
Again, is this a a neutral safety switch issue, and if so, how do I test it please?
Didn't get anywhere with search....
