Default Power fold mirrors

I think the wing mirrors that fold back are called power fold mirrors and one of mine does fold the other does not. The one that does has slightly yellowed glass the other is plain, clear glass.

Am I probably correct that the one has been replaced with a non fold mirror?

I'm currently repainting the cover on the one that doesn't fold, is there an easy way to look inside and recognise if all the parts are there for folding? I looked on SNG Barrett site and couldn't see anything that referred to power fold.

I hope that makes sense!

Believe it or not the glass pops out of these mirrors pretty easily (if I'm thinking of the right car, lol)... If you adjust the mirror alllllll the way in (so the corner closest to the car is most forward) all you have to do give the mirror a slight yank towards the outer edge of the mirror casing and tilt the glass away from the frame. Tough to explain,,, easy to do. From there you aught to be able to see the motor OR compare what you have to images found on Google

I suppose I should investigate both and compare. I assume the yellowed one is auto anti dazzle?

A diagram certainly helps when it comes to removing the mirror without breakage!

1. Remove the Mirror Glass:

2. Check for presence/absence of a motor pack:

Ooh, well I confess I did manually move the mirror when I first got the car as I didn't know it had powerfold.- guess what I'm doing tomorrow morning?

Apparently very few have that feature even the gentleman from Back to the Garage had to search to find one to video its operation. Mirror r - l selector in neutral key on and 2 quick pulls to the rear on the adjustment button. If they move you got them. If not either they are broke or you don't have them.

The mirror head is designed to pop off the drive peg on impact to avoid smashing it. Moving it manually between the folded and deployed positions pops it back on the drive peg. You can feel it click into place.

For anyone interested in the Powerfold mechanism faults and repair, member bballarin did this superb thread on rebuilding his X308 mirror:
