Power Steering Pump & Pulley Removal
Hello all! I hope everyone enjoyed their Labor Day and extended weekend (if it applies to you).
I need some advice, as I've run into a problem getting my power steering pump pulled on my '03 xk8. The previous 4.0 engine was a lot easier I hear due to a different type of pulley. The '03 is a pressed on version, and my little shop who was attempting to remove the pump found that they needed to remove the pulley to access at least one of the mounting bolts. This contradicts what I've read in the JTIS, but I didn't push it. Nonetheless, even if they could have gotten it out, the shop found their pulley removal tool wasn't going to work. They called around and the auto parts loaner programs also claimed that it needed a special tool.
Please chime in, as I'm probably going to take this on myself. Do I need a special pulley tool? Can the power steering pump be removed w/ the pulley still in place?
