Power Window - cant close door

My 2003 XKR power window drops when you open the door but then raises as soon as you release the handle. The information display does not indicate that the drivers door is open, so it appears that the car thinks the door is always closed. The dealer wants $750 to replace the door latch but I assume there is a switch somewhere that is bad. Has anyone fixed this problem? How hard is it to remove the door panel? Does this use the plastic inserts to hold on the door panel? If so are they reusable?
Any help is appreciated!

First try to reprogram your window module. With the door closed, run the window(s) all the way up and hold the 'up' switch until you hear a click (4-5 seconds). Run the window all the way down and hold until you hear the click.
How old is your battery? The failing window memory is the first sign of a failing battery.
There have been issues with the door handle micro switch.
Search the forum for removing the panel. Try something associated with the audio system, which is the primary reason to remove the door panel.

You can verify the operation of the switch in the door latch.
While holding door handle up, flip the actual latch in and out with a pencil.
IN ,as with the door closed, window should go up ,light in door will go out.
OUT, as with the door open, window should go down, light in door will go on.
Remember door handle must be held UP all this time.
I don't know if the switch is available separately.

Thanks for the quick responses. I found the door panel removal instructions with a search of this site and then removed the door latch. The microswitch that monitors the latch position was broken. Inside the switch, the stud that holds the spring in place fatigued allowing the spring and switch contacts to fall out of place. I was able to move the stud back into position and add a bead of solder to provide additional support. I reassembled the switch and reinstalled into the latch and verified that it was working. The $750 I saved goes towards brake pads and rotors...

Hey ajsva, I'm having the same problem with my driver's side door latch. Definitely narrowed it down to the microswitch in the latch. I've already pulled the door latch once but didn't try to actually disassemble the switch. You're the first one I've heard of here that's been to actually repair the switch inside.
If possible, could you please PM me with a little more detailed procedure on how you got the switch apart. If I can also salvage mine and save a couple hundred on a new door latch I'd be more than happy to photograph and write up a DIY procedure for the rest of the folks here on the board.
Thanks!
