Power Window Problems - 98 Xk8
#21
Have you had the battery disconnected or is it getting old? Weak batteries can cause all kinds of electrical gremlins on the XK8's.
First thing to check is the window travel limits. With hood up and doors closed, raise the driver's window and hold the switch until you hear a soft click. Lower and hold the switch again until you hear a click. Repeat for the passenger side.

That's a shame. I was hoping for something more serious so you'd have to send me a Eurotunnel ticket to come and fix it for you!
If your battery is a Jaguar OE Varta, you can check the manufactured date. It's stamped on the top of the negative terminal.
You can just make it out in this pic. The code is WW/YY for Week number and Year. Anything over five years old is on borrowed time.
Enjoy the touring.

Hi at last I had my power window fixed by changing the motor. But not at Jag dealer; they said also mechanical parts had to be changed, also because motor alone non available, cost 1000€+Vat+assembling, but luckily they had a second hand from a Xk8 with broken engine at 500€+Vat+***. My Bosch mechanic found that it was possible to order also the motor alone at 500€. Tried to fix existing but worked if connected but only detached from mechanism (low torque?). So he got in touch directly with Bosch that said motor cost was in reality 78€ but couldn't be sold by Bosch due to exclusivity to a distributor that charged 500€+ Iva (Vat), and added some bad words in my name. So my final impression of a Jag repair is: 1) Jag dealer in my town (Brescia) tried to cheat me and will never see me again (I'll rather go to Verona were I've been told there's a more serious one) 2) Distributor of Jag spare parts in Italy (I am not sure it's Jaguar, can be a different company) charged 500€+Vat for a stupid Bosch motor they pay 78€. Generally speaking, I am frequently surprised by the total absence of a customer care strategy in automotive companies. If I woe have found a good dealer and reasonable spare parts prices I could have been a potential customer for a new Jaguar XF as main car. In reality in my city I had bad experiences, direct or through friends, also with Subaru, BMW, Mercedes, Fiat, Alfa... The only one with good stories being obviously Toyota/Lexus...

Power window
Lucca, you may do better to find a good independant mechanic who you trust to do the run of the mill stuff, like your window regulator.
There is no need for a Jag specialist for that and you can always pass on advice from the forum to help him if needed.
1000€+Vat+assembling is scary!

That's why next time I'll probably go for a Cardone remanufactured part: Power Window Motor Cardone 47-2856
Still a price that is probably three times the manufacturing cost but half of the robbery from Jaguar original parts.

I am having a problem with my passenger side window. First the window will only operate using the driver side button. Sometimes while driving the window will just roll all the way down on its own, and then it will not even roll up using the driver side button. I let the car sit for a few hours comeback and the window rolls up just fine still using the driver side window button. I notice the speakers are also not working on the passenger door either. I don't know if this connected with the window button not working or what. I checked the 25 amp fuse and it is fine. I recently just got my car back from the jaguar dealership service shop, (fuel pump), and I will hate to have to make a return trip there. Those guys are super expensive.

Hi Guys. I've kinda had the same problem. My window stopped coming down when I opened the door, wouldn't work with the button and the door wouldn't lock or unlock with the keyfob. I took the whole door lock mechanism out and apart but couldn't see anything wrong! so I put everything back together. Then I decided to wiggle the wiring as it comes out of the body into the door and hey presto! it all started working again! :-)
